No. And I think that most parents should go 50/50 with their child's first car.

Yes when I was in HS my Mom bought me a car, even though I didn’t feel comfortable yet driving(she didn’t even let me PICK IT OUT, that bites). In the mean time my c0zin used it, he ended up running away with it (more like stealing it) and drove it half way through the country of the USA and burnt out the engine. After that my Mom didn’t buy me another one, even though it was her fault for giving my c0zin the keys LOL! Latter I got a scooter, she helped out with that too, and bought all my motorcycle gear. It’s SO sweet, I spend about $25 a month on gas Muhahahaha, I should thank my c0zin when I see him for wrecking my car back in HS!

Or else I’d be spending about $400 or more per month on gas as we speak today! Sheesh what a difference. Not to mention the upkeep LOL!

Yes I think parents should if you really DO NEED it to get around.
B/c it's not like we have a dope job that we can spend that kind of money let alone credit to lease or finaince it LOL yeah more like ZERO credit LOL! We aint got no flow like that nor no credit. SO YES they should HELP!

I had to pay for my first truck, but my parents helped me out with insurance or whatever if I didn't have the money. I think parents should make their kids pay for their first vehichle, but help them out if they run short on funds. It kills me to see a 16 yr old driving a brand new car/truck and giving it hell, they don't learn how to take care of something.

I dont know if they SHOULD, but my parents did. I lived 30 minutes from my high school, and my parents bought my first car and paid my first years insurance just so they did not have to drive me around anymore! I think it was more for them than me!

I bought my first car and paid gas, maintenance and insurance by myself. The only thing my parents did was add me to their insurance policy so that it would be cheaper. My husband did the same thing and when our boys are old enough, they will have to do the same thing. They will appreciate it more when they have to work and save the money themselves and if they wreck the car then my husband and I won't lose any money over it.

My first car actually was my dads old car but it was relativly new only like 5 years old. He gave it to me because he was buying a new car around the same time I was getting my drivers license. I have to pay for gas though.

I think it depends on the family situation. If your parents want you to have a car to make things easier on them, getting you and siblings to school, running errands, etc, then they should help out. If you want the car so you don't have to walk or ride the bus, or just want to look cool, or go joy riding, buy it yourself.

My parents did, on the condition that I was a taxi service for my siblings.

No, I don't think that parents should. Kids need to learn responsibility, and its just not happenning with todays youth and teens.

i had to go solo when it came to getting my first car. it's nice when parents do help with paying for the car, but it's not their responsibility. the biggest perk out of doing it myself was that they couldn't take it away from me.

Having a car is a big responsibility and a great priviledge... it's nice if they help a little... but it's really gratifying to do things on your own. :-) It's hard to say if I think they should help, it depends how much of a hardship it would be to them. I also think it's hard to understand when you are young, but it ican be a scary thing to let you child drive.
