The US will desperately need unskilled and semi-skilled labor in the future. Aside from baby boomers retiring, we're facing negative population growth combined with increased rates of enrollment in higher education.

Our options are:
1. Have more children who will grow up being told they are our future janitors, agricultural workers, and manufacturing labor, a plan that would make Lenin proud.
2. Subsidize our unskilled workforce (low paying jobs) by taking workers from our skilled workforce (high paying jobs) and putting them there, thereby employing our college grads to pick vegetables. Even Lenin and Marx would call us inefficient commies.
3. Or revamp our immigration system to solve the problem, like France, England, Germany and Italy have done.

There you have it, we can become a totalitarianistic socialst country or fix our immigration system. It really shouldn't be that tough of a decision.

I suppose we could outsource too, but I imagine most anti-immigration folks feel the same way about outsourcing as they do about immigration reform, so I didn't include it.

Actually hayleyluv, illegals pay into social security and medicaid(it's witheld from their paychecks if they use a fake social security #), but they have no way of ever collecting the benefits. So, they're actually providing for our elderly

No we don't. Currently we have a growing population due to illegal immigration from poor countries which is disproporationately criminal (not even taking into account the illegal presence item). What we need is limited immigration that fills the specific gaps we as a country most need filled.

Fortunately, we are in a position to allow in only those who would serve the best interests of this country, because of the benefits and economy we offer.

Canada is one who has a small, aging population and is seeking young single or family workers.

Who is going to support the boomers, they are reaching retirement age. Will we have enough workers to support them?
