I have a long-haired cat who doesn't seem to be drinking enough in the hot weather. He pants like a dog. How can i keep him cool?

Long-haired cats can get pretty warm during hot weather. Most cats will drink enough on their own, as long as there is clean water always available. If your cat isn't drinking enough, make sure the water is clean and doesn't have chemicals in it. Try getting a filter if the cat just won't drink it. Ice cubes is a good idea. Another thing you can do is put some water directly on your cat. Most cats will lick themselves off if they're wet, and while doing that they are also drinking the water. Also, your cat may have trouble drinking because he is panting so hard. You may have to help him cool off so that he can catch his breath enough to drink. One thing I've done that works well for an overheated cat is to freeze water inside a 2-liter bottle (empty soda bottle), wrap it in a sheet or towel, and let the cat lay next to it or on it. Getting your cat trimmed and brushing him often may also help.

Wet him with a damp cloth fairly often, make sure there's always fresh water for him. Some cats like to lick ice cubes in hot weather, make it into a game by freezing a sardine into a cube and he'll play with it and drink water at the same time.

They care and intense warmth can kill them only as the different animal or human. you may desire to locate a place the place it is obviously cool during the day. wet and cloudy days are not any concern yet solar on a roof can somewhat develop temps previous tolerance. you may make a small area interior the storage and aircon that so as that they are able to be soft. Any temp below 80* would be tolerable. How approximately interior the cellar - in case you have one. which will stay cool. a place at or close to the floor would be cooler than a place up intense because warmth rises. You do could desire to be careful.

I wanted to keep my cat cool too ,and since she's afraid of Ice cubes I got a lil' bowl from Albertson's that you put in the freezer ( it's for ice cream ) and I take it out and fill it with cold water and she LOVES it! I went back and got another one so I can alternate them. She also likes that it's uphigher than her other bowls. She like's it when I put a clean wet towel in the bathtub too. She's COOL!

You may want to keep him inside for the duration. As a last resort you may want to take him to the groomer and remove some of the hair.

Put ice cubes in his water. He might get curious enough to investigate them. And make sure he has cool, shady places to lay. You might even consider keeping him inside if he's house-broken.

get him shaved first, take him to a groomer and shave him, then you can also try putting ice cubes in the water. also try et food for a bit mixed with dry so that he can get the liquids from that as well.
