You should do nothing, unless your intent is to embarrass the person.

This is one of the quirks of etiquette. One is assumed not to be in control of flatulence. Everyone is supposed to pretend that it didn't happen. Commenting on it is rude and just draws attention to it.

One is assumed to be in control of a burp. That's why you are expected to say "Excuse me" or something similar.

Hope this helps! I don't make the rules, I just know about them . . .

My sister was a teacher and she would go to one end of the classroom and let out a silent but deadly fart in the room. The kids would be covering their noses and blaming each other never suspecting that it was their teacher. She would get a real charge out of that trick!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would laugh so ******** hard and then make fun of her for it for the rest of the year, and then I would vomit all over the floor and would have to breathe some air that was fart-free.

I would regard it as a friendly challenge and immediately try to outdo them, as long as I was not likely to crap my pants in the effort. But this is not politically correct, flatulence escalation stinks.
