I'm looking for more than just a one-word answer here; any spiritual/religious support you give your answer is what I am looking for. Is there a spiritual leader that opposes/supports the punishment with whom you agree? Do you see something in Scripture that supports/opposes the death penalty? I have my thoughts on the matter, now I want yours. THANKS!

(Oh, and please don't copy and paste a bunch of info from some website, either. Just post the web address and I'll click on it.)

The bible says"Thou shalt not kill" I figure if the need for punishment is necessary God will handle it.So many times people have wronged me and I hear the voice say "Vengence is mine" I know God can do far worse than I ever could so I leave it in his hands. Someone has to answer for those charges on judgment day.

I'm opposed to the death penalty.

Old Testament Scripture clearly supports the death penalty. The Mosaic books specify death for a number of offenses.

If you are Christian, it is interesting to note that Christ's death was brought about because of the death penalty.

I think, though, that New Testament Scripture doesn't really lend itself one way or the other towards the death penalty. I'm opposed to it because I think it is unjustly distributed. Most of the time, a criminal that has access to funds for a good lawyer can avoid the death penalty, while poor criminals who rely on an overworked, underpaid public defender are more likely to receive a sentence of death.

The recently deceased Pope John Paul II issued a statement on March 25, 1995, that is largely in line with what I believe. (I should point out that I am NOT catholic, but you asked if there was a spiritual leader that has a position with which I agree, and it is Pope John Paul II's position with which I agree).

i'm virtually a hardcore liberal. each and everything liberals stand for i stand for, except abortion. i'm no longer thoroughly adverse to it, yet i imagine there should be some regulations. i believe the only time someone should be allowed an abortion, is in the journey that they are lower than 14 or lower than , or in the journey that they have got been raped. it should be not basic to tutor in the journey that they have got or have not been raped (i nevertheless have not found out a way yet). The demise penalty hurts the rustic better than it facilitates. It actual expenditures better to kill someone because once the demise penalty even is stated contained in the court docket, all expenditures ought to bypass larger. now and again particular prisons run out of money, they ought to allow convicted felons bypass into the authentic international. and there have already been 2 popular circumstances even as they have killed someone and later got here upon out they were innocuous.

I support it. We are putting our serial killers, etc. in jail for life, or close to it. We are overcrowding our prisons. It costs more to keep a prisoner in jail than the average American makes in a year. And who pays for it? The American citizen. Why should we pay to keep a crazy serial killer locked up? He killed, or close to it, so why should we deserve to live? Maybe if people see that "If you kill, or do other horrible crimes, this is what will happen: The death penalty," rather than going easy on people, people will learn not to commit crimes.

I'm not religious. In my opinion, I don't think that a person should be killed as this just ends up in a cycle. If we only killed murderers then you have become the same as the person you have killed. Life imprisoment is a better way to go. I hope you appreciate my opinion even if i am not religious

When asked by the doctors of the LAW about the legality of paying taxes to Rome Jesus said Render to Caesar the things at are Caesar's and to God the things at are God's. The LAW of the state says that if you kill with murderous intent the State will execute you. This is the LAW of society I guess God sees the justus of the State in making LAW and enforcing them..

I' for death penalty, I don't care about what religion says about that, but I don't find it appropriate that some murderers or rapers or other criminals are put to jail and taxes of good citizens are spent on them

Most of the people who oppose it are devote Catholics and other religious fanatics who want to impose their views on public policy in clear violation of the establishment clause to the first amendment.

If you see a snake, on the side of the road, kill it now...Lyndon Banes Johnson.

Look for the word snake, in your Bible. Is the word mercy associated with it, anywhere?

I can't define the word snake, but I know one, when I see one...
