Every time i go buying one it's always nasty. I really would like to go in the store and get a juicy sweet watermelon.

in india, it's a known practice,by the vendors, to cut avery tiny cube of the watermelon, and show to the buyer, that it's red, and sweet. you should go for the dark-greenvariety, these are normally very sweet inside. also check there is no discoloration of the fruit, or soft patches, indicating staleness. now-a days, we get even seedless variety over here. where are you from ?

In the days of farm stands they used to punch a plug out of the watermelon and let you taste it. I am not sure if there is a sure way of knowing what you get other than that.

if u knock on the watermelon, it will have a full sound, that means its very juicy. that should help u pick a better one.

This im good at u have to tap it hard and the harder the watermelon is the sweeter it turns out

Usually I knock on the bottom / top part of the watermelon... U can "feel" (i mean the sound) look empty inside...

Smell it...I'm not kidding. You can tell the flavor of almost any fruit by smelling it. Works for me anyhow.

It should sound "mellow" and "hollow" when thumped.
