This was a prosess for the worst of the worst or criminals and it was known as a disrespectfull and grusome punishment), and he died on that cross to free us from a seperation form God in hell, an eternal place or torment, punishment for sin, gnashing and burning of flesh, a place where no one wants to be, Satan lives in Hell, but he torments us on earth too by tempting us to sin aginst God and doing wrong.
