boot from cd?

Question

i already set the bios for cd first but it dont do it i hit another key on my other computer i cant remember what i think it was a f key and it worked on that one i want to boot from cd but i cant seem to get it.thank you

that is what im trying to get is the promt boot from cd

What computer do you have? Most computers you have to press something to get to the BIOS settings. It is usually F12, but it could be different on yours. Once you get to your bios setup screen, you can set it up so that your CD boots first before your hard drive. It lets you number how you want the boot sequence.

If you want to just run the CD, then you might want to hit F8 right before the Windows Logo comes up and then start up under DOS COMMAND PROMPT. then you can just type cd d: then hit enter. D should be your CD drive. Then just hit dir and hit enter and you can see the list of files in your CD.

By default, the Dell is set to boot from the internal hard disk first, even if there is a CD in the drive. You must hold down the F12 key at boot time in order to bring up a menu that allows you to select the CD as the boot medium (you can also change this permanently from the BIOS setup).

which cd are you trying to boot from? if it is a windows cd, you will need to watch when you first start up, you have to press a key in the first few seconds when it askes you or it will boot your hard drive OS. Keep your eye on the computer as it is booting. Also, make sure you are using a bootable cd/dvd disk.

Also, is your cd/dvd drive being recognized properly in the bios?

They might ask you if you want to boot from the CD.When you see the prompt press ENTER.
