Yes, it makes both a sound and a smell. Right before it hits the ground it lets a loud and horribly stinky fart.

Sound is something that occurs naturally and therefore it will be present where the right conditions for sound exist whether anyone is there or not.

Smell however is entirely different it does not exist on it's own. Since smell is a sense unless a human, bird or animal is present whatever makes it up is goes unsmelt. It requires a nose to be present.

Insects do not have noses and use antenna to taste what we describe as smell so they do not count.

i.e. Smelling is a function of a nose and can only be conducted by a nose.

No, it makes neither a sound nor a smell.

Sound is vibrations as perceived by a human as sound. The vibrations are there but no human means no sound. If you has a recorder there it would produce sound when you played it back and had a non-deaf human listen to it.

Smell is a chemical analysis of material as perceived by a human as smell. The dust stirred up is there but no human means no smell.

Same deal with taste.

It sure does bro, the gust of wind produced pushes the aroma farther and farther through its vast forest eventually leading to some sort of living being that has the sense of smell.

a smell? Don't you mean a sound? well if you mean sound then yes it does make a sound, just like you know that there is no one in the middle of the ocean but when a whale jumps it makes a splash and you know that a splash makes a sound. so it's a logical thing, regardless if there is no one there to hear it, you know it happens

It should smell like a freshly fallen tree, but if no one is around it won't offend anybody.
