When they do it doesn't really hurt, but sometimes it does.

Okay, parakeets bite when they are scared or feel threatened. So if it bites you put it back in it's cage and cover it up for about an hour.Keets hate being alone.Don't spray them with water because that will cause them to fear water and they won't want to take any bird baths. And another thing,if it's in the cage and it's biting you don't withdraw your hand.If they get it in their mind that if they bite you you'll go away they will keep doing. So don't pull your hand out of the cage.Keep it right there. When you have a new keet you have to get used to being biten at first. You also have to build your trust with them.Don't give up on your keet.Make your keet understand that it doesn't have to bite you because you are not a predator.Another thing, whenever you reach into the cage to change it's food and water make sure that it is paying close attention to you.Try giving it millet, they love that.Once it learns that the hand is friendly and brings treats to it,it'll stop biting you.If all this fails then you may just have a mean keet.Good luck and email me if you need more advice.

They will eventually get used to human contact. When they bite you is for nothing but protection. What you can do in the meanwhile is gently tip their head right after the bite, that way they'll know it is wrong. But as I said, time is what is really going to work.

As soon as it bites you put it down and give it no attention at all for a while. They will learn that if they bite they won;t get what they want- attention.
