I suffered from bulimia for years but recovered last year, I have been unable to lose excess weight through diet and regular exercise. I am certain I burn more calories than I take in (I keep a detailed journal). I am at the high end of healthy for my height and would like to lose about 10-15 pounds. Is my metabolism messed up permanently?

You have undoubtably lowered your metabolism, especially as your bulimia will have caused you to lose muscle mass, and the less muscle you have, the lower you metabolism is.

However according to experts it is possible for it to recover, especially as you regain muscle. The link below might be useful. Make sure you are doing plenty of strength and toning work as well as long steady CV (20 mins plus) for fat burning. If you have reached a plateau, try some new forms of exercise to work new muscles and 'shock' your body into better results.
Also, when it comes to diet, concentrate on what you can pile on your plate that will benefit you nutritionally, rather than worrying about what you should leave off it - works for me ;) Good luck.

Could be, but more than likely you need to change the type of calories that you are taking in.

Nope. and even if it was, you have to remember, if you burn more than you take in through eating, you're going to lose weight.

i was told when i was anorexic that your metabolism is stunted for a while. i dont know for sure if yours will get better, mine hasn't. you need to like double your exercise to burn what normal people burn doing half that. it sucks.

first of all, CONGRATS ON RECOVERING!!! thats really hard to do.
but unfortunately, you did mess up your metabolism. you arent able to lose weight b/c your metabolism is so slow from baseically starving yourself.
