My neighbor has 120 cats what could I fo to control the odor.
Please help they are good neighbors i would hate to report them is there anything i can do

the cats are looked after very well they each have there own dish and there own bed she has an entire room devoted to cat food they re trained to go out side in a certain area in the far back of the yard where there is no grass unfortuneatley the spot is right next to my yard, She adds amixture of soil and kitty litter every once and a while so it is clean It just smells and if i called her in i would be afraid she'd commit suicide cause the cats are her life.

I have no kids I'm the only one being affected every time i walk near there. i have to walk there because that is where my garage is and its where i park my car.

Odor is the least of the problems here. Even if you or her don't see a problem with that many cats, somebody else is bound to notice some day and report her. I'm sure she wants the best for those cats. You can suggest that she either: 1) Hire the help necessary to take care of those cats properly. Since she can pay for the care of 120 cats, it sounds like she's not lacking in the money department, so she probably would be able to afford this too. 2) If she doesn't have the money or the inclination toward starting her own shelter, then she should start finding good homes for as many cats as possible now. The sooner she starts, the more time she'll have before something like being reported happens. I don't believe she should get rid of all of them, but she needs to take it down a notch or two. Since you're sympathetic to her cause, you're probably the best person to try to talk reason into her.

P.S. Where did you come up with the figure 120? Did you count or was that an approximation? Or, was it a typo for us poor unsuspecting folks? ;) That figure is almost hard to believe, but I wrote my answer with the idea that it was some number that indicated there were definitely too many cats. (:

No matter what you do, a 120 cats in one home is a health hazzard for people as well as the cats. It would take a good sized crew to keep up with them. The bedding has to be cleaned as well as the dishes every day to keep harmful bacteria from forming. The fact that there is an odor means that it is not clean.

Some one will eventually report her and she will lose all of her cats. Try to convince her that she should reduce the number of cats to at least 20, 10 would be more manageable, before this happens while she has some control. Point out to her that if they take the cats from her, a few will find new homes, but most will be killed. She should begin contacting places that can be found on the web to help her find homes for 100 cats or, as a last resort, try to make her own deal with animal control to work with them, the humane society, etc, before they lay their deal on her. Their deal will not be good.

Well, if the cats are healthy I'm not going to go off on the hoarder issue...

If she's a nice lady, why don't you tell her just what you just said. "I think you're taking very good care of them and I don't want to draw unwanted attention to this. But, I'm having a problem with the odor." Maybe together you two can come up with solutions that might work. Just tell you you're not going to report her, and you dont want the kitties to lose their home, but you just want to work out a solution.

She should definately be reported. Cities have a limit on the amount of pets one can have. Call your city hall to find out but I'm 100% sure that 120 cats is wayyyyy over the limit! Don't delay...do it today.

Ok, She Tells you she has 120, Its breeding season now are they all fixed? Have you been all inside her house? She may have rooms that would blow your mind..This lady is what is called a Hoarder..Its an Illness..For her health and yours you need to call animal control..
you dont have to give your name.rThey wont just go yank her cats, they will work with her and hopefully get her help. They know how to handle these people and know that her intentions are good..I guarenttee you they will have to waer resperators in their and they will get way over 120 cats if thats HER count! Good Luck,,You will be helping her I swear

you can't do anything without reporting...but...don't you think 120 is a bit much? You should report them but ask to keep your identity secret because not only is that a health problem to the cat but the owners as well. They could all catch something and many cats could die without them noticing and a rotting carcass might just make it worse =P

I can understand your problem...yes it is bothering every time you walk to your garage, but if you report them she might lose her cats and its gonna hurt her a lot, she must not have many relatives ,kids, or friends and cats are her life, if you report its gonna hurt her a lot. see it bothers you but doesn't hurt you like it will to that woman who own 120 cats.

so be patient and try talking to her , she should change the place where cats go pow....i think that can make things better.

i hope you don't break anyone's heart. the cat owner should understand your problem and you should understand the feelings of that cat lover :)

120 is too many to make sure they are all being cared for properly - people may have the best of intentions but its not fair on the cats. I'd tell someone because she may say that the cats are her life but they can't speak for themselves so someone has to go in and check on them.

human beings are too complicated. The extra sturdy they strive against, the added they muck issues up. Cats might want to rule the international. Gotta love 'em, sleep 22 hours an afternoon.....sweeeeet! EDIT: vzrider: if cats were the proprietors and folk the pets, then cats would might want to bypass to artwork. Their way, as pets it fairly is, is definitely more desirable.

I agree with mom of 2, with that many cats, you can't have good veterinary care. Does anyone watch animal cops shows?? 120 cats today and who know how many tomorrow? She can get sick from that many. You need to report it soon do it anonymously. Good luck!!!
