In 2001 Chevy made some needed improvements on their tucks. I would not recommend a Chevy truck older than 2001. The Ford 150 is great work truck with a tough suspension and lots or torque. The Chevy 1500 is more comfortable with a smother suspension. It also gets slightly better gas mileage. I chose a 2001 Chevy 1500 myself and have been happy with it. If you want a truck with a good ride get the Chevy. If you want a tough work truck get the Ford.

I drive an 04 Silverado 1500 and love it. I know from working for both GM and Ford the Silverado should give you less problems. They (SIlverado) also have much better fuel economy then the F-150. And better resale... pretty much everything is in favor of the Chevy.
And Rico is WAY OFF on the Tundra fuel economy. I worked for a Toyota dealer and the mileage on the Tundra is horrible. They had to gear that truck at 3:93 to give it the appearance of power and therefore their mileage is in the mid teens. I get 18 MPG in the city with my truck and 21 on the Highway. I have a 3:42 gear.

The Ford has a better suspension, the GM has the edge with the engine. Overall I would go with the Ford. They both are pretty tough, and don't cost as much to fix as the imports.

Both are good trucks, but they have a lot of different models. First check what you need (load, passenger, towing...) and then you can make a decision.
I like www.autotrader.com to search for used cars, you can even compare the 2 models.
Good luck.

I would never buy another Ford product because they are so complicated that it takes more time to repair one. That means higher cost for labor. If you fix it yourself, you will be frustrated. I would therefore buy the GM even if it cost more money. Also, Fords are prone to electrical problems.

get a Toyota Tundra. They're really tough and last a long time. Plus gas mileage is way better than any of the domestic brands
