In the book "People who don't know they're dead" by Gary Hill, it sugests that a lot of mental disorders are actually people obssesed with spirits that never made it to the other side. Meds make you tired, you stop acting up, but without them, you are weird. What do you think of that posibility? Could that be the reason why people can not get cured many times for mental disorders, but just be "under control"? Anxiety, depression, acting different when under influance... Not possesed by demons, just "hitch-hiking spirits who are not in the right place".

As much as I am into spirit work, I think that's a load of bull. Mental disorders are not caused by possessions or hitch-hiking spirits. Blaming your disorder on an outside cause is just a way of trying to place the blame for your mental and emotional issues on an outside source so that you don't have to do the work it would take to help yourself. If you can put the blame on a spirit then there's no need for you to go through therapy, change your lifestyle, and take other steps to treat your disorder. It's also another way of trying to find a cure for an illness for which there is no cure. Mental illnesses are a lifelong struggle, and yeah it's tough but you can deal with it and become stronger or you can go ahead and blame another spirit for it and try to take the easy way out.

But spirits can't take people over, they can't latch onto you, they can't influence you that way.

I don't believe mental disorders are "hitch hiking spirits". Not sure those even exist. I do know that the attack of mental disorder is very real (I was delivered from it a few years ago). What I do know is that the devil will attack where ever he sees a weakness. Any illness can (and usually is) be the hand of the devil. The bible states that by His (Jesus) blood, we WERE healed. Spiritual healing is real and a gift that many do not practice anymore.

With all that said, (I could easily start to preach), there's nothing wrong with getting medical help for these type of disorders, but prayer is the strongest medicine you can get.

I've always wondered about that. I majored in psychology so I'm familiar with what little is known about the mechanisms of mental illness, but I'm also very religious and believe that people can be possessed. I think the majority of mental illness is just that, some kind of wiring problem upstairs. And I don't think that people can really be possessed by spirits, but I do believe that spirits have the power to exert undue influence over people. I also believe that the spirits could be demons or the dearly departed, since the two are only different in their affiliations.

Oh, it's all very complicated and only getting worse, so if you want more of my opinion, write me.

There are many in the church who agree with this viewpoint. Is it true 100% of the time? I don't think so. Perhaps, but who's to say that demons can't use those tools to attack people? Or to influence their thinking is a way that causes them to give in to their diseased thought process?
