This was posted recently on yahoo answers as an answer to another question. Curious what teaching this is??

"Jesus was NOT crucified. He was raised to the sky before being that, and the one who was crucified was NOT Jesus, but a similar to him."

That is definitely Islam.

This is actually one of the most fundamental differences between Islam and Christianity. In Islam, Jesus is just a human being but he is a prophet. We do believe in virgin Mary but Jesus is certainly not considered the Son of God or God in flesh.

Mary was virgin.
Jesus was a human.
He was a prophet just like Mohammad, Moses, Abraham, David, Solomon, Noah, etc...
The Bible was revealed to him.
Judas was a traitor to Jesus.
But, before Jesus could be captured, tortured, and crucified, Jesus was lifted into the heavens. This is a very important distinction. Jesus was never killed and Jesus never died. He was lifted into the heaven where he will remain until the day of judgement. He will be brought back to earth. His arrival will be a sign of the end of everything.
He was lifted into the heavens and Judas was punished by God by making him a look alike of Jesus.
Judas was the one who was captured, went through all of the suffering, and crucified.

That is why Muslims are not big on crucification because Jesus was never crucified.

I have always wondered about this. If christians believe Jesus to be the Son of God or God in flesh. Then why would God allow His son or Himself to be treated like this. Wy would He let Himself be tortured and humiliated and nailed to a cross.

If your source is nothing but the Bible then I must say that it is not a very good source. It is a known fact that Bible has been modified extensively and different version exist. This must have been done so that the church could stay in power.

Talk about the word of God.

The Church of Corinth doubted Christ's resurrection to Paul after the Crucifixion and resurrection took place. They based their theory on the AD 70 doctrinal theological system which sparked other beliefs about the visible resurrection of Christ. Based on the AD 70 doctrine, many people believed that the second coming, Crucifixion & resurrection coincided with the judgment & destruction of Jerusalem. By this, they also denied the visible resurrection of Christ.

Even though many Christians disputed these beliefs and found these claims to be flimsy, there were certain sects that developed into religions because of this schism. Gnosticism purported that Jesus was not resurrected, but another man was "taken up". This is not to say that Gnostics do not believe in Christ.

Preterism became known as one of the religions that did not believe all of the teachings of Christ, including prophecy & the order in which things happened/will happen. For example, they believe that the second coming and the tribulation have already happened. Preterism influenced other religions as well, which caused great divisions among churches. The Preterists themselves split off into two groups: Full Preterists & Partial Preterists.

Other religions influenced by the AD 70 teachings were the Quakers. Quakers also deny the resurrection of Christ, as well as the body of Christ and the need for Christ in order to attain salvation. Shakers later divided from the Quakers, having their own interpretation of Christ's resurrection including (among other things) the belief that Christ saved Jesus from His sins (try and figure THAT one out!).

I hope this helps a little. I'm assuming that you are not referring to atheism (the denial of the existence of God/Christ) or agnosticism (the uncertainty that God exists). I'm also excluding other religions that see Christ only as a prophet or the archangel Michael simply because some don't deny His Crucifixion. Good question, BTW!

yahoo answerer ,"Love is great", answered with that response to the authenticity of Christ's resurrection. He claims to be a Muslim man, age 21, and is purporting to spread the "truth" of his beliefs. So, I'm guessing that this is a teaching from the Qu'ran, but he failed to note his source. So it's impossible to determine without reading the entire book, and I have no desire to do that. By the way, I thought your answer was definitely the best in that particular forum. Maybe the Holy Spirit will prompt "love is great" to click on the link you supplied. We could pray for that. I've tagged it and hope to get to vote for your response. If you don't get it, though, that would be an even greater reward. Someone may check out your link if you are voted best answer, though, and hopefully come to a knowledge of Jesus Christ as their Savior. Keep up the good work!

I think they are referring to the fact that Jesus was just a man that happened to be possessed with the spirit of God. When Jesus was crucified he said the words "Father why have you forsaken me", this was when the spirit of God left Jesus. Having the spirit of God in him Jesus could have easily stopped the Crucifixion, but this was not in the cards for him, he was to be sacrificed, his job on Earth was done. I'm agnostic, but that is just my take on the story. Makes more sense then Jesus being the son of God and God at the same time.

Gnosticism. Gnosis is Greek for knowledge (or at least something similar). Their core beliefs are that salvation is found through knowledge ad study, predestination, and that the god of the old tesament is actually a son of god that thought he was the real god (it gets confusing). They also are Christians, but they believe that another son of god was in Jesus (kinda like possession) and that the Man Jesus was not god. Tey believ that this god left Jesus before he died hence "Father/God, why have you forsaken/left me" None of this is an Islamic belief.
