Golden Retrievers are wonderful dogs!! They are big and dorky, but very smart and loyal. They are great with children and other animals. They are gentle and they love to be around people. On the down side, they can have some severe health issues, are prone to skin conditions, and they shed A LOT!!!

The best! When I was a kid I had one, it died at 13 I think, then my family got another one and it's currently 5. These are the nicest dogs you could find. Great around kids. They might lick you a lot, but they'll never bite anyone. They might bark every now and then (less than most dogs), but can be trained very easily and are usually very smart. They do shed a lot though, so be warned if you have allergies against dog hair. Not too energetic, but not lazy. Good pets, house dogs, hunting dogs, and companions. Make sure the parents of the dog have good hips though, and the parents are from seperate family lines. Then you should have the perfect dog!

They also tend to have some ear problems that can be solved by ear drops usually.

Golden Retrievers is one of the best breeds out there when looking for a pet. Especially if you have children of any age. They are very gentle, loyal, intelligent, good tempered and laid back. They love the water so are good to take with you either hunting, to the beach, to the lake or backyard pool. They are protective to the point where if someone were to cause physical harm to you or your child, they would assist yet are reserved enough not to snap nor attack if someone to merely approach.

They make excellent pets. They are great with kids. They do need room to run and when we moved into this apartment my dad made us get rid of it. It was the best pet i ever had. They shed a lot in the summer time so brush him a lot. They are very playful and energetic, and they need a lot of attention.

They are great family dogs. But, they need alot of attention and time. They require grooming and excercise. But their temperment and personalities make it all so very much worth while. Check to see if you have a local GR rescue group if you are looking at getting a new family member. They have some wonderful dogs that are in need of new loving homes. They like to dig as most dogs do. They are a little hyper when they are young but once they get over that they are great pets. Very smart, loyal dogs.

Great temperament...great around kids. They don't bark much.
As with any big dog, need training in manners.
Females are the sweetest and more affectionate.
Need room to play and run or walk at least twice a day.

Very good pets nice dog and friendly, good with kids obedient too... easily trained.
BUT>>>>
They are very prone to skin problems especially "hot spots"... due to their dense coat, also matting is a problem, so regular brushing. A very active dog in need of LOTS of running and attention. they will act out if they do not get this attention.
You must commit to this dog...
