Obviously there would be some overlap. For example, the books of the prophets: Isaiah, Jeremiah, etc, all contain quite a bit of history in them as well. In Judaism the Scriptures are divided into 3 categories:
Torah - Law
Neviim - Prophets
Kethuvim - Writings
Torah is Genesis through Deuteronomy, it is both History and Instruction for how we are to live our lives. But it also contains prophecy given to Abraham, to Joseph, to Moses, etc.
Neviim is the Prophets, and in the current order starts with Joshua which is mostly History.
Kethuvim, the Writings, contains poetry like the Psalms, wisdom like Proverbs as well as some historical books like Esther. And yet there is some prophecy found in the Psalms.
So trying to simply categorize Scripture into nice neat little boxes really doesn't work, each book works on many levels. Study each one for itself and don't think too hard about categorization.

The Prophetic Books: Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Baruch, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi.
With love in Christ.
