He was physically, emotionally, and verbally abusive to me. Last year he moved out because he wanted to be with his girlfriend rather than stay with the family. He is also in AA and MA. I really don't want to get him anything or even call him. It just feels wrong though.

I think you're answered your own question... You shouldn't do anything or maybe you could send him a really agressive letter and tell how you feel. Talk to your mom or the other part of the family (that are on your side,of course) and ask for an advice.What's better,you should try to find a solution,together.

I have been through a similar situation and I find it a lot healthier for me to ignore my dad's birthday. I have decided that I need to focus on my feelings about myself instead of worrying about his feelings. Hope it helps.

Get him a quality card and write down exactly how you feel about him. He will respect you for it.
