When several countries are involved.

If fighting on "every major continent" were the criteria, then we haven't had one yet. North and South America, two large and heavily populated continents, saw no actual combat in either of the World Wars, nor did Australia (the smallest and least populated of the continents except for Antarctica).

The first World War did not have much combat outside of Europe, if any.

I think the criteria that has been used in the past was that the conflict drew in the majority of the major powers of the day. In WWI we had England, Germany, France, Italy, Russia and a number of smaller European countries along with Canada, the United States, Australia and New Zealand. In WWII that list expanded to include Japan and China.

I don't think there is a hard and fast description of what constitutes a World War. I would go with the conflict involving most major powers definition, myself.

A war is considered a world war when most of the countries of this world and of the UN seperate into two groups on a specific issue.....ppl join sides and turn on to each other...this is how a world war orginates and the intesity of it depends on which main countries are involved...in these days of new technology another world war will be enough to destroy this whole world...lets hope it will never happen...God Bless

After the winner is determined and the history books are written by the victors. During the conflict, its usually called the 'great war', the 'european war', the 'patriotic war', etc. At least that's what happened after WWI and WWII.

Actually.... any war should concern the world. We are hurting not only human lives (about us as human kind), we are like taking a hot poker and burning our Earth with it (still about us, no earth, no us).

And by the way... with all the accumulation of money from all countries... why is UN not keeping peace like it was paid to do?

I pray for the human race... but maybe we(as a race) are really not worthy to be in your image!
