me and my dad just started talking for the first time in 7 years all i did was take him out for coffe and we just started like that we still dont have a father daughter relationship but we get along now to have coffe once a week and i feel better about having some contact with him.

Sit down with him, when you are getting along, and tell him that you really want to get along better and if he is willing to try if he is.
Then tell him that you want to get to know him better, Then start asking him questions about his life. Where as he born? What did he like doing when he was a kid. Where did his parents come from. and so on.

The two of you need to find a way to prevent arguments. If you can talk about this with each other it would be good. Identify what sets each other off. Make a plan of how to communicate differently. Both of you need to change. Each family has a way of getting along, if it isn't working, things need to change.

You might not of known him long, but you know him now and that is wonderful. We can't change the past but we can change what we do in the future. We have one life to live...live it the best you can
