I have these vitamins I have to take, but they're huge and it says they can be broken and you can pour the powder into juice or food only it doesn't say what to do with the "shell." Does anyone know if the "shell" is important or if I can just throw it away?

Hi :),

The shell of a capsule helps the medicine inside it to reach your tummy without losing any of its potency. In most cases they are packed in a capsule because they taste real bad, and instead of spending money on research to make em more delicious (and expensive), its always easy to pack em up in dissolvable shells.
If you are comfortable taking them by mixing them up with food and juices then its cool ...just dump the shells :)

Since the capsule could assist in the time-release nature of a particular pill, this is a question best answered by a doctor or pharmacist. You don't know what could happen if you took a 12-hour dose all at once.

The shell is not important - it is just a way to get powder down and into your stomach where it can be broken down and the powder released. Throw them out!

the shell is like a jello. doesnt do anything besides creates a lubricant in your throat to help you swallow. if you have trouble swallowing, you can just open the pill, and put it in your food, drinks, whatever. I use to have a problem swallowing pills, so I would open the pills, put the powerder in a glass of warm water, stir it up till liquified, and chug. make sure you have something sweat to drink of eat afterwards, a lot of those pills dont taste very good.

The shell is just the container for the powder. If it says you can take it it juice by opening it then by all means you can discard the shell.

You do need the powdery and the shell in the pills because the medicine is in it and it gives you more vitamines if you don't brake the pill. good luck

Toss the shell. It is there to help your tummy not get sick if you take it on an empty tummy. Some people get pain from medicines and vitamins in their stomachs...the coating (or shell) is just there to let the pill pass throught your tummy undigested till it gets to your less-sensitive intenstines. Thata's why Tylenol comes in caplets....for sensitive tummies

you can just take the powder out of the gelatin capsules
put it in water because juice or something might destroy some of the vitamins

Yes the shell is just a digestible container to keep the medicine inside, you can throw it away.

The shell is NOT important. It's only there to contain the powder.
