you didn't say what type of cookies...that will make a difference. But, it's possible that if you're using real butter, you didn't let it get soft enough...so if you want to get dirty hands, you can try to knead the dough...it will warm it up and maybe make everything stick together...
but, I would just start completely over...make sure all the ingredients you use are soft and fresh...

Add some water, and mixed with some vanilla extract (if you're not allergic to vanilla extract). It will give your cookies something extra...

Sounds like its too dry. Try adding milk, 1 Tbsp at a time, until you get the right consistency.

a tip from a friend is to use eggs and butter that are room temperature, not cold. and using a hand mixer may help.

this is NOT the case for pies though.

You forgot to add the Crisco or you forgot to add the eggs. Hopes this helps!
