Why would a patriarchal system, written by men who were not allowed contact with women, allow such a book to be included?
Think about how mysoginistic most religions are (the greatest exception being Wicca of course) and you have your answer.

Because it was written by a woman. The Bible as we know it today was assembled by a Roman Priest in the 4th century AD. This was a time in which women were not thought very much of. There were thought to be a total of 34 gospels at the time (including Thomas and Judas).

There's a Gospel of Mary Magdalene? {nods her head at the expected answer}
Anways, think of it like this... The Bible is missing alot of details. We can't put our trust in what's there. Alot is missing! There is truth in the Bible, but there are also gaps in the Bible. There are alot of things that are not included in the Bible from the beginning (Genesis) such as the story of adam and eve and their children.
Adam and Eve made two sons... Cain and Abel. Cain turned on Abel and killed him. The Lord sent him out to the Land of Nod taking his wife with him............................................. Where did this wife come from? Did Eve make a girl allowing Cain to take his sister as his wife?
See what I mean... the Bible excludes alot of important information. So certain things wouldn't be surprising if it just pops up on us. And another thing too is that we have to keep in mind is that human beings has a tendency to lie. Some of them can't be trusted. How do we know that they didn't stage alot of things? And plant alot of things? Like this new Gospel... and also the Gospel of Judas...

In about 300 AD, the Christians of the time had a big meeting to determine what would be in their bible and what would not. This book was left out because it was too controversial. So were many other gospels, such as Judas.

The Bible was written for us to get to know God and Jesus and the Holy Spirit . And most importantly to give us knowledge of the Trinity and to seek them for salvation . Especially the book of John . Mary Magdalene was a prostitute that Jesus forgave and she became one of His followers . It's wrote in the Bible

because the "Gnostic Gosples" werent writtne by the apostles or close friends of Jesus aka eye-witness accounts. The other gosples were written about 200 years after Christ and they teach salvation through secret knowledge (gnosis) instead of through the Blood of Christ. the other gospels also didn't fit the old testament and contain many geograpical and historical errors.

Because it would disrupt the patriarchial structure that dominated the world at the time. Imagine, to find out that The Christ's favorite follower was a woman, and the most learned at that?!? They would have to ordain women as bishops, priests, etc. Oh the horror! (blantant sarcasm on my part).

It shows that women were held in high regard in early Christianity. I believe it was too feminine. It is pretty short, if you want to read it.
