I was paying my bills and by accident put my car payment in my credit card bill and vice versa. As you can imagine the two were greatly different amounts, but even though they had the wrong name on them, they both deposited the funds. Is this even legal? Everyone is telling me there is nothing they can do.

if it was made out to the wrong person then I don't see how they could have cashed it. might wanna consult your bank but doubt that would do much. am I'm sure one company is really happy and the other is not right?

Yes it is. If you made a check to anyone, even if there is no debt, than they may cash it. Most companies will cut you a check in 30 days. Most utilities will just apply it to the next months bills. If you really need the cash you can call and a select few will get you the money within a few weeks.

PS> Most companies have fully automated machines that open envelopes. Human eyes never even look at them.
