Hi, I'm going to be a highschool freshman next year. I can't decide on whether to join Track or Cross Country!!!!

Which one is funner/easier/more suitable for a newbie like me?

You could do both since Cross Country is usually in the fall and Track is usually in the Spring. One will help keep you in shape for the other. But remember that Track is about speed and C.C. is about keeping a steady pace, since it is about 3 miles or so for a normal C.C. trail. So you need to decide which would be more FUN for you. Good luck at which ever you choose. Also you might need to start running now to get into shape, but do it when it is cooler, like around 7:30-9:30 at night.

Well, first of all, they are in different seasons, so if you wanted you could do them both. Cross country is in autumn and track and Field is in spring.

Track and Field is a combination of different event, yet each event can compete on its own. The running events are differ by a couple hundred hundred meters a piece. They also have obstacles like hurdles and multiple person relays. the Field part of track and Field focus mostly on strength. this includes events like the high jump, pole vault, and discus.

Cross Country on the other hand is a distance race. There are no obstacles in these events. A standard race is 5 kilometers and then they increase the length by kilometers. The longest high school races you will find are between 8 and 10 kilometers.

Both sports are a lot of fun, but keep in mind, you have a lot to work for if you are just starting at the high school level. I would recommend starting with track. the distances are shorter and you get to choose what events you run.

My son had this same dilema last year for Freshman year. He decided to go with Track because he could participate in many events and decide which one he liked more. If you decide you like the relays or distance, then you could do CC in your sophmore year.

Have fun!

I like to run so cross country is my choice. You don't have to run all out at a fast pace the whole time just need endurance.

it really depends on how much you like to run, if you like to run a lot then i would go out for cross country, but if running is just an occasional fun thing to do, or to just get excerise i would shoot for the track...Good Luck!

um... One is typically a fall sport (cc) and the other a spring (track.) Do both - I did; trying to do just one gets you lazy the rest of the time and starting up is harder later. (It's not that demanding, trust me.)

do both. my friend and i were freshmen last year (fall 05) and we joined cc together and trained the whole time and by track season, we were the best on the team beating out upper classmen! it felt great!
