Heard tell they understand Swiss English better!

That is not the case. Swiss German is very different from standard German; it is a dialect. Even people who speak German do not understand Swiss German.
But with Swiss French, it is a whole different story. The French spoken in Switzerland is regular, standard French. The only difference would be a different accent, just like the people from Atlanta have a different accent from the people from Boston.

The Swiss German is really difficult and different from standard German. You can get the gist, and people generally know how to modify the dialect to helpyou.
Somehow the French spoken in Switzerland is not that much more difficult to understand than that spoken in the Jura region of France. Who knows why?
