Would I be able to quit my job and do this full time? These people have absolutely no ability to think for themself, and so rather than try and think and come up with an answer they try and refer you to a book where they obviously can't find the answer but they hope you will.

I could have made $7 from this post! That's amazing. I'm gonna start my resignation letter.

$8! and the other thing that gets me is these people think that simply because you're asking the question you didn't read the bible. I HAVE read it. There isn't the answer for half my questions in there. Why don't we all start replying "Think for yourself" instead of "Go Read the Bible"

People tell you to read the Bible because the Bible speaks to everyone differently. Yes, the underling message remains the same. But if you are asking a question that you will not believe the answer anyway, what real reward is there for the question to be answered by someone other than yourself?

You seem frustrated!!!! People refer you to the bible because that's where the answer to all your questions. I think the problem with you is this....you are looking for a quick answer to what ever it is that you r seeking. You figure if you can go to people and get the answer you won't have to study the bible like everyone else has to, to find answers.

so don't get frustrated with ALL the referrals to the bible......

Can you image if you had of opened the bible the many times you were referred to it, how spiritual richer you would be right now!!!

If I had $1 for every time an atheist has said that Christians are stupid, unable to think and have no answers, I'd be rich beyond the dreams of avarice.

Your response makes it apparent that you have not read the Bible. Have you read anything else of import, for that matter? To believe and maintain faith requires intense, introspective thought and the ability to admit that we are flawed but changeable. To admit that we could be wrong. To admit that God may have a better answer than we do. Instead most people refuse to give in and remain atheists or agnostics, spouting off nonsense like rebellious children - unwilling and unable to subject themselves to real thought, to real action and to real commitment. Instead you run from fad to fad hoping to glom some kind of self-realization and self-importance through your futile activities.

Do you have the ability to open your mind? To see that you are free to think, rather than be a slave to your closed society of nothingness? To hope and to accept that you just could be wrong? Try reading the Bible with an open mind instead of your closed one. If you approach it as if it could be true, you will find remarkable results.

May God bless you and lead to His path.

You are being judgemental by by saying that about people who tell to read the bible to get answers. :) It never helps anyone this way. Maybe they are telling you to read it so that you can learn to think about your question, maybe they dont have time to answer you, maybe they lack the ability to articulate the answer in a way you would understand. There can be so many reasons :) some valid, some trivial. You are losing focus here, work on finding the answer, not what people tell you to distract you from the search.

Read the Bible and you will know.

There, now you have an extra dollar.

Now, if I could only get a nickel for every time I've had some atheist ask me to produce proof that God exists, when he knows damn well there is no such proof, and how could there be...and maybe a dime for every time they throw in some dumb remark about leprachauns, tooth fairies, etc, could I just buy out your boss's company, and live in luxury for the rest of my life?

If they want you to read the Bible then they should be able to quote you a verse to read, it takes forever to find what your looking for in their. But I do think that most of the answers are in there, its just interpreting them is the hard thing.

Good grief....the answers ARE in the bible. That is what they are saying dummy. I can't convey what is to be found there on answers. I can only point to it. It is something that takes study and time. Even if you pick it up and read it like a novel it will help you to know what you are arguing about.
Educate yourself.

I think the reason people respond that way is because they know you aren't "really" looking for answers. If you were interested in finding something out about God or religion, you would do it in a more private and discreet manner that looking for it through yahoo. It's obvious that you have prejudices and would much rather use this as a medium to push your own opinions about religion rather than learn something.

That is the standard answer. I often think these people have absolutely no understanding of it themselves

Or they quote it to show it is right. As if it validates itself. At least they put some thought into it. Unfortunately the only place these people find answers is in the Bible.

You also need to pray and accept Jesus into your heart.

IF I asked a question about science and the answer was in a science book, why not tell me to look in the science book to find the answer. The thing is you really don't want an answer you want a debate.
