I've been reading about this lately, seems the early church fathers left out an awful lot, suppressed it for some reason, labeled these texts heretical and burned most of them, they had a very persuasive marketing strategy, the crusades, inquisitions, witch hunts, not very healthy to disagree with them. I found a bunch of websites with some of the stuff that was left out of the "bible" and has been rediscovered, but I don't think we will ever know the whole or real "truth" or why and who kept it such a big secret.
I grew up with the Douay-Rheims, and in the Bible in my parents house, it had a whole bunch of other stuff in it too, like historical maps, Rosary prayers, Stations of the Cross, pictures and history of the Vatican, Artwork, big long chapters on the Sacraments, Eucharistic Adoration, The Mass, explaining each part and the bells that the alter boy jingled, fasting before church, etc...
In my bible I have more books than other Christians do, these are the additional books in mine:
Tobit
Judith
Esther - another ten verses and six more chapters
Wisdom
Ben Sira (Sirach) (Ecclesiasticus)
Baruch
Daniel - another two chapters
Letter of Jeremiah - Considered as part of Baruch in Roman Catholic Tradition
1 Maccabees
2 Maccabees
And I have a friend who says he's got even more in his:
Jubilees
Enoch
Esther - two more books
Psalm 151
Maccabees - two more books
Book of Odes (includes Prayer of Manasseh)
SO, I don't know what to tell you, sorry

Men wrote the bible, and therefore it is fallible. There are lots of good things to be taken from the book, but it is not meant to be taken literally. The stories are supposed to teach a lesson. Since many books of the bible were stricken at various points in history, for political and other reasons, it is not fair to assume that the bible we use today is actually in its intended form. Ever wonder why it is called the King James Version? Doesn't that automatically assume that there are other versions?? Also, lots of the information in the book is reflective of the society in which it was written(many years after Jesus' time, incidentally), and social and cultural bias, such as sexism, is rampant.
Also, many bibical scholars will say that since there are many words in the Hebrew language that have several different meanings, depending on interpretation, the biblel is very difficult to translate accurately. For example, the Hebrews had a very specific word for "homosexual", yet that word is not in the bible at all. Another word for "companion" was translated to mean homosexual, so even the notion that the bible prohibits same-sex relationships is questionable. (however, since lots of the so-called "rules" handed down by god, such as only drinking water from a fresh spring and not eating pork, were relevant more to sanitary issues than anything else. If you say it comes from god, though, people are more likely to follow the rules)

Pentateuch: Levite priests who worked for the kings at the time.
Written to explain phenomenon that science hadn't discovered answers for yet, to create a history of the Jews, to create laws of behavior (at a time when there was no separation of church and state), to inspire those going through bad times (ie Job), and to instill fear of God

The remaining Hebrew Bible aka Old Testament: various Levite priests and kings. Written for the same reasons as the Pentateuch.

Gospel: Followers of followers of Jesus. Written to record the life and teachings of Jesus.

The remaining New Testament: Mostly letters by Paul to the towns he had travelled through to convert people to Christianity. Some letters written by followers of Paul. A few are unknown authors. Written to encourage the new, early Christians, many of whom were being burned at the stake or fed to the lions or otherwise killed.

Keep in mind that all these writings (with the exception of the Pentateuch) were not linked together into a single book until a few hundred years after they were written. The Pentateuch is also a linking together of independently written texts, but it was done so earlier.

IT IS VITAL TO OUR SALVATION THAT WE BELIEVE AND PREACH GOD’S TRUE AND UNCORRUPTED GOSPEL (GALATIANS 1:8).

The Bible is the word of God and there are no inconsistencies in its original Hebrew and Greek texts. All of its books and prophecies are in harmony. Men compiled the Books of the Bible but God wrote it (2 Timothy 3:16), and He has kept His word intact and uncorrupted. God’s word stands forever and will not fail to accomplish His purpose (Isaiah 40:8, 55:11; see also Matthew 24:35).

The promise made by the Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 16:18 proves that a complete and universal abandonment of true Christian principles had never taken place. Since the beginning, the true Body of Christ had always endured and prevailed so no restoration was ever required.

The Bible warns against adding or taking away from God’s prophecies in Deuteronomy 4:2, Proverbs 30:6 and Revelation 22:19. The word of God also says it’s a serious offense to claim God said something He didn’t (Deuteronomy 18:20; Jeremiah 14:14-16; 2 Peter 2:1). To ensure this mistake is not made, words and visions must agree with what God has already revealed in the Bible (see Acts 17:11 and Hebrews 1:1-2).

Two tests to prove legitimacy of a prophet:
i. They must represent the true God of the Bible (Deut. 13:1-3)
ii. Their prophecies must be accurate (Deut. 18:20-22)

WHAT THE BIBLE REVEALS ON THE NATURE OF GOD

God has always been eternally God (Psalm 90:2) and created all things (John 1:3). God is spirit (John 4:24), and one does well to believe there is only one God (James 2:12). The Bible declares the Father is God, the Son is God and the Holy Spirit is God (Romans 1:7; John 20:28; Acts 5:3-4), yet it also proclaims firmly that God is one (Deuteronomy 6:4) while making a clear distinction among the persons. The God of the Bible is all-knowing, yet He declares that He knows of no other gods (Isaiah 44:8). God insists that before Him no other god was formed, neither shall there be any god that comes after Him (Isaiah 43:10, 44:6).
There is only one God (Isa 43:10-11; 44:6,8; 45:21-22; 46:9; John 17:3; 1 John 5:20-21). The Father (Jehovah) is God (1 Peter 1:2; Philippians 2:11), the Lord Jesus Christ is God (Matthew 1:23; John 1:1; 20:28; Hebrews 1:8; Hebrews 13:8; Revelation 1:7-8; 2 Peter 1:1; Titus 2:13) and the Holy Spirit is God (Acts 5:3-4; Acts 28:25-27; 1 Corinthians 3:16-17; 2 Corinthians 3:17). These Scriptures give crystal clear evidence of God’s tri-unity.

Almighty God was always triune (one God in three persons, not three gods). God is comprised of the Father, the Son (Lord Jesus) and the Holy Spirit, each serving a function. Jesus was not created - He always existed as part of God. Neither was the Holy Spirit created. Human beings and angels were created. The Lord Jesus was made flesh (in the Immaculate Conception) by God, so He (Jesus) could make the sacrifice for our sins. When Jesus was made flesh, He put aside His divine nature and humbled Himself as a servant (Philippians 2:5-11). During that time, the Father was in a greater position but position does not denote an inferior nature. We call Jesus of Nazareth the Only Son of God because God was His Father and not a human being. Jesus is God, Jesus is the Son of God and He is called the Holy One of God.
The Lord Jesus is eternal and uncreated (Isaiah 9:6; Hebrews 7:3; Micah 5:2, John 1:1-3; 8:58; Colossians 1:15-19), He retained His deity while becoming a man (Philippians 2:5-11; Colossians 1:19;2:9; Colossians 2:9; Hebrews 1:3-8), He is equal in nature to God the Father (John 5:18; John 19:7) and He receives the same worship as God the Father (John 5:23; Hebrews 1:6; Revelation 5:11-14; John 14:14).

THE BIBLE TEACHES ETERNAL LIFE BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH

Because mankind is incapable of meeting God’s standard of perfection necessary to abide in God’s presence (Romans 3:19-20,23), God sent His Son Jesus Christ to pay the total debt for the believer’s sins and mercifully credits to his account Christ’s righteousness (Romans 3:21-28,5:1-11; 2 Corinthians 5:18-21). Jesus’ gracious act of atonement was complete and covers all sin (Colossians 2:13-14; 1 John 1:9). Salvation is not based on good deeds but according to the mercy of God (Titus 3:4-5). Believers are justified by faith; it is a gift by God’s grace (Romans 4:3-8; Ephesians 2:8-9). A true, living faith will result in a desire to live a holy, loving life of good works (Ephesians 2:10; Galatians 5:6; James 2:14-26), but failure to be absolutely successful at righteous living does not negate the believer’s justified status.

Many persons contributed to the stories that were later written down and eventually collected into an anthology known as The Bible. Some were collections or paraphrasings of earlier stories. We don't know for sure who originally told the stories or their reasons for telling them. We don't know who eventually wrote them down or their reasons. Other persons undoubtedly altered or abridged those writings--sometimes deliberately, sometimes inadvertantly. We do not know for sure who they were or their reasons.

But none can deny that The Bible has had an extraordinary effect upon history, both on the level of kings and states and upon individuals. It has inspired both great acts of generosity and great misery.

God inspired the Bible
2 Timothy 3:16

He chose certain men and prophets to record his thoughts and purposes by means of his holy spirit allowing them to do this
2 Peter 1:21

They wrote so that people could benefit from:
The laws and commandments (and principles) of God to apply in our lives and live by
The prophecies that were fulfilled, and are going to be fulfilled for those who pay attention to them
To get to know the only true God, Jehovah, and benefit from the blessings that have been provided thru his son Jesus Christ
Historical information about God's people, where they've come from, where their going,
etc. etc. etc.
If you would crack it open you can examine it and see how much information you can learn from it! it's a blessing.

no person individual wrote the Bible. that's a compilation of books written via many distinctive authors. various the books themselves are probable compilations written via many distinctive authors (Genesis and Exodus, as an occasion). some have self assurance Moses wrote the 1st 5 books, yet it relatively is maximum possibly legend considering writing type, vocabulary, and grammar selection in the textual content textile. additionally, there are problems of consistent good judgment for the time of, which betrays the possibility that the 1st 5 books of the Bible have been written via many distinctive palms. the recent testomony became into additionally written via many distinctive human beings, maximum possibly in the time of the 1st century. even nonetheless, no person has get entry to to the unique information, we in straightforward terms have copies of copies of copies of copies. each of those copies are distinctive in some way, so that's impossible to pin down precisely what the unique textual content textile says. we are able to in straightforward terms approximate what the unique textual content textile reported. So, in a feeling, the Bible became into 'corrupted' over the years of its written transmission via careless or theologically inspired scribes. If God did certainly motivate the Bible, why did no longer God then safeguard the unique information so as that shall all of us understand what they reported? My stoop is that those are very human information, written via those with their very very own theological, social, and cultural biases. those texts, in my opinion, do factor to God, yet they weren't authored via God. basically my opinion nonetheless. desire this facilitates slightly.

"WROTE" is an illusion. GOD SPOKE the Bible to us THRU lots of cool people called Prophets, so it only LOOKS like the Bible was "written" it was actually "INSPIRED". GOD did that so we could have clear FIRST HAND INSTRUCTIONS on how to be forgiven for our characteristic disobedience to HIM by our 'fallen human nature'.
i once heard someone refer to the BIBLE as "Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth" that's pretty accurate. so GOD "wrote" it to help us choose the rare WAY that will get us admission into the 'FUN' club once our lifespan crosses over into ETERNITY, where it will be too late to train Christlike habits into our character, which helps determine our destiny, according to HIS WORD. ...that's also why it's called "THE WORD OF GOD".
GOD does NOT need us to speak "for" HIM as most are often fond of pretending to be able to do. ...LOL !!! you sound like a drill sargent. =D GOD's "agenda" is to keep YOU & ME from experiencing the ULTIMATE rejection in eternity.
...by the way, i think YOU should get points for asking such an excellent quesion !
