un-install everything that has to do with ur dvd rom including going into the My documents and delte the folder then go into C:\ Programs files and delte folder from there ...re-install driver's and driver's for u usb go into system remove one in question let computer fine it again...then install ur disc for dvd rom..after install restart computer

run a registry check or u can put in ur windows xp software disk and do a repair
