No they cannot. They can go to their commander and let them know, and their commander can make a decision following the guidelines of the regulations. If he was the only male in the family, why did he join?

Nope you signed on the dotted line. My husband was the only living male in his family. He still goes out to sea.

no you cannot. If you sign up you can only get out on a few reasons....one is dont get on the bus. If you dont report to get on the bus then you did not join....Second. dont ask dont tell rule....tell. haha. other is you can claim for political resons you dont want to go because you dont beleive in what you are fighting for. Now, consiquences will come with that one!

He/she should have known and understood the risks when they signed on the dotted line.

If they didn't want to go they should have resigned from the armed services.

Not very well done to want to welch on an agreement :(

i believe that the law you are referring to went out with the draft. i think if they re-install the draft, they wont be able to make you go to battle if you are the only male in your family, but i don't know the law and my history classes were too many years ago.

No...however ther may be some way that he would not be sent to the front to do the actual fighting.

He would have to do research in the Military regs.
