The program you are referring to was a mock-umentery. I saw it too. Some of those mock-umenterys are hard to tell from the real thing, you have to catch the very beginning of the show that is the only time they state it is a fictional account.

The fire-breathing kind are completely fictional. The Animal Planet program was sort of asking what their biology would be like if they did exist. The closest thing the world has ever come to something like a dragon was during the age of dinosaurs. These days, it's crocodilians and Komodo dragons, which do not breath fire but are big lizards with a nasty bite (they reach about six feet in length)

Dragons that breathe fire or the ones that you saw on the Animal Planet show never exsisted. The show was made only to entertain, and to give a glimpse of how life would be like if dragons did exsist.

As mentioned above, there were flying reptiles and there are Komodo dragons which are large monitor-like lizards.

I'm of the opinion that they both "exist"ed and "exit"ed. Eh...if we believe in dinosaurs the only hard part to believe about the dragons is the whole fire-breathing thing. Oxygen is a contributor to fire and so long as they had a fire "agent" somewhere within they're mouth they could essentially "breath fire." It's not that far-fetched.

There is no evidence that fire-breathing dragons ever existed. However, it is theoretically possible for a fire-producing creature to evolve. Already we have the bombardier beetle, which produces concentrated hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). This is mixed with other chemicals to produce a hot liquid. If a creature were to have separate glands for H2O2 and a flammable compound (hydrazine, for example), it would be a fire-maker.

In deed they DID exist. Now there are several species which include dragon in their names. Dragon fly in example. But seriously they once roamed this land and roared through the skies

Six-limbed dragons (four legs, two wings) never existed.

The Komodo Dragon is a large monitor lizard. These exist. There are other now-extinct monitor lizards that were larger, and it is probably from these forms that we got our legends.

It is said that the dragon is actually a description of early dinosaurs, which are incidentally, mentioned in the bible. See the link below.
