Hello:
I think the best thing for minor burn pain, and in fact the ones I recommend to my patients is silvadene cream and solarcaine which is usually used for sunburns but the "caine" part of it tells you it is analgesic (pain killer). Another one you might want to try although it hasnt been proven to work but a few of my patients swear by it is anbesol (the gel you use for infants when they are teething). You can also use oral medications such as extra strength tylenol, ibuprofen (advil) which comes in 200 mg tablets over the counter but you can take 800 mg three times per day with food. That might help with the pain. You can also try naprosyn (alleve) at twice the over the counter dose with food. I know burn pain is probably the worst type of pain there is but short of a narcotic,ie. percocet or vicoden, there is not a whole lot you can do at home to make the pain go away completely.
I hope this helped answer your question and "allev"iate some of your concerns.
Regards,
Warren Shaffer, M.D.

They do make burn gels that are supposed to help ease the pain and redness, but I know that you can only apply it every so many hours, and you can't use a lot of it. I worked at Starbucks and poured a pitcher of 200 degree water onto my hand. I put some of that gel on it and it felt way better! I'd say try that...and be careful next time you mow the lawn.

find some sunburn cream that has lydocaine (sp?)in it!!!
it usually comes in a spray or a gel with aloe or some such stuff, but it's almost always BLUE!!!!!
and keep your hand in that cold water as long as you can, it really will help - you could also take something for pain (aspirin comes to mind but I don't know that it's the BEST alternative)
Good Luck - ouch!!

Anything containing oil or butter is bad, because it will keep the heat in and the burn will either worsen or not heal as quickly. Stick to aloe vera and neosporin (if it is an open wound).

Aloe vera works. Also sunburn relief aids such as Ocean Potion. You can buy it at Wal Mart and it's blue. That one seems to cool me off wonderful when I get a burn.

Creams can actually make it worse. Just keep running cool water on them for a while.
Time is the only medicine that will help!
