fruits
apple, grape, guava, kiwi fruit, mango, melon, nectarine, orange, peach, pear, pomegranate, plum, strawberry, tangerine, watermelon
veggies
bok choy, broccoli, carrot (chopped or grated), celery, chard, lettuce (but small amounts of lettuce and not too often as not a lot of goodness), peas, silverbeet, spinach, sweetcorn, watercress, zucchini.
Favorites with cockatiels tend to be apple, egg, pasta, peas, rice, silverbeet, spinach, sweetcorn.

Be aware that your cockatiel's droppings may be runnier than usual with an intake of fruit and vegetables. Some cockatiels will not take to fruit and vegetables straight away

Never give your cockatiel alcohol, avocado or chocolate - these can kill your cockatiel. Also avoid asparagus, aubergine or eggplant, cabbage, caffeine (tea and coffee), junk food, milk and cream, raw potato, and rhubarb (including the leaves).

Fruits. I'm not sure about vegs. I had a professor who also had one. She said it LOVED grapes. But be forewarned! Keep reading, and follow my instructions. That way you can avoid THE PROBLEM. Go to a pet store and buy a plastic cage cover, and a plastic tray that clamps to the bottom of the cage to catch droppings. The first time she fed grapes to her cockatiel, she was late for class. She hurredly tossed some grapes into the cage and ran out the door. When she got home, there was purple grape skins EVERYWHERE. (Walls, drapes, carpet, stuck between the wires of the cage, etc.) The first time she saw her bird actually eat grapes (yes, she brought the cage OUTSIDE), it looked like a cat on a high with its catnip toy. I think you can figure out what to do with the cover and tray, and when to use them.

Hope this helps. And YES, she DID have to repaint snd buy new drapes and carpet. It was an expensive snack for her bird.

Bananas, apples, shredded carrots, zucchini,I think they can eat any fruit or veggie that is not acidic ex. oranges, tomato and ect. They also love Fruit Loops cereal and now they have small dehydrated fruits and veggies in the baby food section at Wal-Mart I don't know what they are called but they are for bays/toddlers to snack on they would be great.

I think each bird has different taste. Mine like a few varieties of lettuce especially Romain. They don't seem interested in strawberries at all. The ones in the pet store were going wild over slices of orange. I guess it is trial and error. Keep introducing different things until you get a winner.

My birds love REAL food. Their favorite....wings! My husband makes hot wings and bakes or grills some wings for the birds. We let them cool and they will eat them bone and all. The marrow is really good for them.

My birds, I have 3, LOVE beans mixed with a little hard cooked egg. They will even eat meat, well cooked and cooled.
As far as fruit and veggies they will eat most anything. I buy a bagged product int he supermarket called "brocolli slaw". It has no cabbage in it so I have no problem feeding it to them. It has a good mix of root veggies and they absolutely LOVE this. Leafy greens and any type of fruit that you have in the house.
But as mentioned in a previous reply, NO avocado, chocolate or anything with alcohol in it. NO dairy... I don't feen them anything that can be harsh, for a lack of better terms... cabbage and asparagus come to mind in that respect.
Here are a couple of recipes I make for them.

Veggie Delight
by Trudy T. Rosenthal, RN, PhD, Nutrition Consultant
The purpose of this recipe is to show members ways in which vegetarian protein compliments may be used for avian care
1 tsp. minced garlic
1 stalk celery, finely chopped
1 carrot, finely chopped
1/2 Cup finely chopped greens (spinach, turnip, dandelions, etc.)
1 pkg. tofu (approx. 20 oz.)
1 egg beaten
2 Tbsp. corn meal
Wheat germ

Sauté garlic, celery, carrot, greens in just enough oil to keep from sticking and until vegetables are soft. Drain tofu in a strainer; then mash with fork and mix in egg and flour. Add vegetables. Form into small patties and roll in wheat germ. Brown on griddle or skillet.

Makes about 2 dozen small patties. Celery, carrot and greens may be chopped together in food processor if desired. This is an excellent soybean (a legume) based recipe with additional vegetables offering Vitamins A and B to the diet as well as the complimentary proteins of corn and wheat.

Quiche For The Birds
1/2 cup beans
1/2 ear of corn or equivalent amount of frozen corn
2 T. squash (any kind), chopped into 1/2" cubes
1/2 small sweet potato or yam, cooked and cut into 1/2" cubes
1 clove minced garlic
1 egg (or egg substitute)
1 T. skim ricotta cheese
Some mixed veggies, frozen or fresh
Avian vitamins
Coarse ground Cheerios

Soak beans for 1 hour before preparing. Drain.

Mix all of the above in a bowl. Should be of pasty consistency but not runny. Add water if necessary. Spread onto plate, cover. Cook in microwave on High for 6 minutes. Remove and break up with a fork. Sprinkle vitamins and mix well. Sprinkle top with coarse ground Cheerios.

Birdie Salad
by Margaret Madison, NCS Online Editor
1 cup fresh greens*
1/8 cup shredded carrots
1/8 cup Mann's shredded broccoli slaw
1/2 cup cooked, warm whole wheat pasta or brown rice

* - I use an organic variety, well-washed, including the following greens: dandelion, red and green chard, red and green romaine, arugula, frisee, mizuna, baby spinach.

Spread the above ingredients out on a platter. For extra nutrition and to maintain variety, top the salad with one or two of the ingredients listed below.

Spoonful of warm, cooked beans**
Spoonful of warm, cooked peas or mixed veggies (fresh or frozen, never canned)
Small handful of unsweetened toasted oat cereal
Pieces of well washed strawberries, grapes, apple and orange - cut into cockatiel-sized pieces.
Green Pepper (occasionally I also give them the seed ball)
Slice of Brownberry 12-grain bread, fresh or toasted, cut into small crouton like cubes.
A small scoop of their favorite cockatiel seed mix

** - I use the bean variety packaged for 16 bean soup, only I do not make the broth, I only cook up the beans

Carrot-Apple Salad
by Trudy T. Rosenthal, RN, PhD, Nutrition Consultant
1 medium size apple
2 medium size carrots
1 bunch carrot tops
1 cup sunflower seed (or mixed seeds)

Wash apple, carrots and carrot tops very carefully to remove any insecticides which might be on fresh fruit and vegetables. Chop carrots and carrot tops in food processor; then chop apple. Do not chop apple with carrots because carrots take longer and the apple will become very mushy.

Blend diced apple, carrot and carrot tops well and add your seeds, and stir well.

This recipe provides a yellow and green vegetable with fruit. By adding sunflower seeds to the mixture the birds who do not like vegetable/fruit mixtures will "forget" what they are eating as they consume their seeds.

Grapes or pears may be substituted for the apple.

This recipe will provide 30 servings at 1 Tablespoon of the mixture per bird.

The National Cockatiel Society website (cockatiels.org), cockatiel.com and The North American Cockatiel Society (cockatiel.org) are 3 of many sites that I use for information for my birds.

as long as its grains and vegetables and fowl food you're nice, no longer something extra is licensed for birds. you are able to prefer to bypass to Petsmart and ask. make certain they don't look eating something they could choke on.
