No, you must cut the split ends off or else they will continue to split.

Unfortunately you can't get rid of split ends without cutting them off. But you can make them look better by using moisturizing shampoos and conditioners. Look for products with silicones in them they can fill in the split ends temporarily and make them less noticeable. You also need to get regular trims every 6-8weeks is good you don't have to cut much maybe start with and inch or just a 1/2 half inch the first time and then after that you can make it a smaller amount each time.
Hope that helps!

I understand that you love your long hair... taking that into consideration, how much are you willing to part with?? It is very important to cut as much of the split hair off as possible (your hairstylist will better be able to determine how much needs to go). If you dont cut it, the splits will continue to split farther and farther up, until they are literally splitting as it grows out of you scalp!!

So start out by taking as much off as possible. Even if that is only 1/2 inch. After that, your hair grows 1/2 inch a month (it probably doesnt seem to because it is breaking off at the bottom), so continue to get 1/2 inch trimmed off a month until your hair is healthy. Your hair wont grow any longer but it wont get any shorter either. After that, you only need maintanence trims to keep it healthy.. 1/4 inch every couple months should do just fine. With this, you can grow your hair longer while keeping it healthy.

If you color your hair, it is best to get it done professionally because they can do it without damaging your ends.

Do not use products like hot oil. These may make your hair feel soft and shiny, but think of it as putting veggie oil in your hair, because that is essentially what you are doing. They offer almost no "nutritional value" to your hair. It is best to do deep conditioning treatments. If you go to a salon, they can do it for you where they put it in your hair and stick you under a dryer. For at home, a good one is Bed Head's Chocolate Head or Redken Cat. Use a split end mender like Bed Head Ego Boost or Redken Anti-Snap on your ends every day. Buy a shampoo and conditioner with protien and moisture. I usually buy a shampoo with one and a conditioner with the other to make sure I am well balanced. Bed Head Moisture Maniac and Self Absorbed are wonderful. Remember with all professional products that they are concentrated and you only need a little bit, so even on long hair a liter should last you at least 4 months.

Try to "heat style" your hair as little as possible, letting it air dry is best. Never pull your hair up in a ponytail if it is wet, it will break where the rubberband is. And dont make ponytails too tight either. If you have to blow dry or curl or straighten, buy a heat protecting styler like Sleek Looks Iron Smoother. It will smoke and steam when you use it, and that seems scary, but I assure you, it is helping your hair.

Do not brush your hair when it is wet. Do not brush your hair too much. You should only brush it just enough to get it untangled. Otherwise you are irritating your scalp and breaking your hair.

Trimming your hair is the only way to really get rid of split ends.
Conditioners and treatmeants may seal them back together temporarily, but the split ends will come back.
You can keep the length of your hair but get rid of the split ends by just trimming the ends every 4-6 weeks.
Just tell the stylist to only take the very ends off, and you won't lose length but you hair will be and look much healthier.

You don't need to "chop" your hair off just be sure to have it trimmed regularly (every 6 to 8 weeks). Use a leave in conditioner like Infusium 23. & try to deep condition your hair once a month.

You should also be sure not to use bands that have metal pieces in them when tieing your hair back. You should also try not to tie your hair back too oftem because it does cause breakage

Usually is just takes a trim to get rid of split ends. you only need to cut off about half an inch every month and you're fine.

Get a trim occasionally. It will help stengthen your hair. Also, try a hot oil treatment.

I've been told by numerous people to try the "mane and tail" shampoo for horses. Haven't tried it myself, but I use "daily shine shampoo and conditioner by suave" and it works good on mine!
