Man, I never thought I would appeal to this group of people? I have had Christians who answer my questions with thoughtfulness and tact and sometimes agree with what I, an Atheist have to say…Freaky? Could it be that we have more common ground than we thought?

NO! ALL ATHEISTS! WILL BURN IN HELL!!!!!!!!!!

Just kidding. Sometimes you get surprisingly good answers from people you wouldn't expect. Though, those are few and far between. Most of the answer I get are along the lines of 'Well I don't care what you think, I'm just going to testify about my love of jesus!" Those get on my nerves.

I think most Christians have, at some point in their lives (at least I have) doubted, didn't believe...for one reason or another. Due to circumstances in my life, I started to have faith again and I no longer doubt whether or not there is a God. But, I can still always relate to what other's believe, etc. without prejudice.

I used to frequent a christian chat room and most of the people in there were atheists usually trying to bust on the christians. BUT, funny enough, we all ended up good friends WITHOUT changing how each other believes. Just because someone doesn't believe the same as you, doesn't mean we have to be judgemental towards each other, etc. And hey...if someone claims to be a Christian and starts putting you down or judging you for what YOU believe, the first thing I would tell them is a REAL Christian would NOT do that.

I don't think that people who believe in God have much common ground on the subject of religion and God with people who don't believe in God. because that is the difference.

however I think it's possible that a lot of people, no matter what religion or atheist, can have mature conversations and don't insult each other. I'd say that the common moral is more alike here than the common ground on theological questions.

you said that they sometimes agree with you...I can't really see how but then again, I don't know the question, so I really don't know about that =)

Generally, Christians appreciate a well thought out, honest question. When you see one, it's almost like a diamond in the rough, because of all the loaded and biased ones in here.

We also tend to appreciate honest debate, as opposed to agenda driven questions that often occur here. You know the ones, "If God is so "whatever" then why does (or doesn't) He allow (or deny) "whatever point I'm trying to make or sin I want to indulge in."

So, I think you'll find that we enjoy corresponding with you in this forum. It can be quite engaging and refreshing!

In my experience, I find that people of every group have more in common than not. You're very shrewd to notice and verbalize this. If we could just focus on commonality instead of getting angry over the differences, we could accomplish so much more. That's my ultimate wish, however unrealistic!

I think those must be borderline Christians. They have a brain, they can think for themselves, they just haven't completely gotten to the point of letting it all go yet. They don't clutch the security blanket around them all the time so to speak, but they do leave it in the other room in case they need it.

Most people the world round share the same basic concerns. We all want to prosper (though we may differ in our perceptions of what that means). We all want security for our possessions and persons. We all want to be able to breathe clean air, drink clean water, and eat enough food to keep our bodies healthy. Most who choose to have children want them to be healthy and happy and grow up to be good people. Almost everyone wants to have the respect of those they themselves respect and admire and wish to avoid failure and humiliation.

It's mostly in the details that we differ. That gives us a lot of commonality to build upon and lots of differences to marvel at, learn from, and enjoy.

I feel that Christianity was built on a common belief system, for if it wasn't, its control on society would not have worked. Of course Christians will have similar beliefs, most of us have something that binds us together, that is what makes us human.

we are probably very similar and we just get caught up in our differences and we only focus on on the things we don't agree with. if we took time to know the other person or what they believe in, we would probably find that we are very much similar... good thought/question.
