Depends on what you want. The bike is good if you have bad knees or ankles because it reduces impact. The bike, however, isn't very good for losing weight, due to gravity assisting you with the motion. If you're looking to lose weight, the treadmill works for me every time.
If that's too much impact on your legs, I'd recommend trying an elliptical trainer. It works almost as well as the treadmill, costs about the same, gives a lot better workout than the bike, and reduces the stress and impact on your knees.
If you have your heart set on getting an exercise bike, however, they make recumbent bikes which are setup so you're sitting as low as the wheel which is in front of you. Therefore gravilty doesn't assist you and it's a better workout. Still not as good as the treadmill or elliptical though. Here's a list in order of effectiveness:
1. Treadmill
2. Elliptical
3. Recumbent bike
4. Standard exercise bike
5. Stepper (good for building muscle but not really for losing weight)

I prefer real bikes and real walking. For me, I don't see the point of moving in an air conditioned room when I can just as well take a stroll around my neighborhood. You'd be surprised how much you actually notice walking or biking versus driving. But, if you have safety concerns or issues like that, I'd buy an excercise bike. It seems to be less stressful on the knees and if you're not much of a runner like me, it'll do you good. Good luck!

i dont think one is really better than the other, its really just personal preference. i would get the bike though because you can go outside and run around all you want :) also i dont like treadmills because i have kind of weak knees and it actually hurts me after a while to run on that thing. if i were you i would look into an elliptical machine, those are amazing and actually a little bit more fun!

It's all up to personal choice, but personally I like the treadmill better. I can adjust the speed more and feel like I've gotten more of a work out than on an exercise bike that I feel limited on speed wise due to sheer lack of being able to kick my feed around that fast!

The better of the two is the one you are going to do consistently.
So long as you get your heart pumping and the blood flowing and work up a sweat, they are fairly equal.
Although a treadmill is the one that will give you the most variety.
So ask yourself, if you go to the gym to workout, which one do you gravitate towards? Once you've answered that for yourself, you'll have your answer as to which one is better.

It's all on what kind of exercise you want; but between the two, I'd personally go with treadmill. Running is more beneficial than riding because it not only helps for cardio and calorie control, but it also toughens up your legs (compare havnig your legs carrynig your body weight through rigorous self-movement to sitting on a "vehicle" and pumping pedals for movement)

In general, you burn more calories on a treadmill (jogging, not just walking) than you do on an exercise bike. However, the exercise bike isn't as hard on your joints (unless you have bad knees).

Save your money and walk up and down a flight of stairs (13 steps usually) for 20 minutes. Most folks can barely start out doing 5 minutes. If you have bad knees, buy a Nordic Trak.
Hint: buy exercise equipment USED, preferrably from people who use them as clothes racks!

An exercise bike is better for you all out. Not only are you exercising your whole body and cardio too, but it is low impact which is better for your knees and joints in the long run.

a bike cause a treadmill damages the bottom of your foot with each step you take it is because of the pull back action as you step it can lead to weak bones, mussels and early arthritis.
