Good point. The Quran also says that if somebody does not convert to Islam you are to kill them. I'm glad Jesus never taught that. I'll go with "Love your neighbor as yourself" any day.

this applies to any religious group if they are ultra conservative, although it is not in the teachings of any religion to threathen those who want to leave.
Main reason is the family feel shame from other neighbor or community on how ineffective they reared this person who rebel against their norms.
Believe it or not! I've know many christian families denounced their kids when this youngsters went to another faith, even if that was another christian denomination.. Again, believe it or not! When this youngsters changed faith because they were married to a weathy person, the parents feel proud of it, welcome them with open arms. Same is true when a daughter changed religion and became a moraly high person, they go mad. they feel ridiculed. But if this daughter shows her sexiness, dressed provocatively, went abroad and work as a whore. They feel proud, because money rained on them. This is a christian family, and many are like them. What a life?

Other religions do not condone mass killing so why would they want to not stop their kind from going to the other side?

Only if s/he lives in a country run by people who are misinterpreting the Koran.

(Don't you mean a "different" religion, not "better"?)
