1) Does your phone work in the U.S.?
2) Does your plan allow you to use it in the U.S.?
3) Is there coverage in the Yellowstone National Park?
If the answer to those questions is yes, bring it. You can call the park rangers if you get hurt or lost.

Only if you have a quad-band GSM phone. Europe uses the 950/1900 MHz frequencies, while the U.S. uses 850/1800. Only a phone that uses all four frequencies will give you a good chance of getting service in Yellowstone, since rural areas tend to rely on the 850 MHz frequency (lower frequencies are able to cover more land area). Most tri-band phones only cover the higher frequency which works okay in urban areas. Also check with your carrier (Vodafone, Orange, etc.) to see how much it will cost to use your phone in the U.S. It may not be worth it, and the ranger stations in the park will almost certainly have pay phones where you could use a calling card instead.

Probably there won't be cell service at Yellowstone, although I don't know that for sure. Did you research what your cell phone's rates for international calling are? They're usually pretty expensive.
It might be cheaper, if you really need a phone while camping, to buy a cheap pay-as-you-go phone when you get to the US.

Cellphone coverage is basically non-existant in most parts of Yellowstone. There are public payphones scattered in the various visitors' centers.

roaming charges are a b!tch
plan on calling people? Or if you are worried and would feel more comfortable with a cell, you could just keep it in your car for 'just in case'...that wouldn't hurt
