Try www.babynamer.com. You can run a search specifically for rare names.

Okay this is kind of lengthy. How about Guess? That way when someone ask what her name is she will say Guess and as they try to "guess" , maybe she will hear a name that she might of like better, or be glad you didn't give her said name. I was going to name my daughter Guess, but I had a boy and he is the last one. So feel free to take the name, if you would like. Make sure your happy with it, or she'll never be. I also suggest to have a middle name that she can fall back on in case she doesn't like it. I say this because we named our son, Traynor Wolf. We call him Wolf and the Traynor is something to fall back on. The reason I say middle name now is because when she starts school then they will try to call her by her first name until she corrects them. We are ready to let his teachers know in August when Wolf starts school to call him Wolf. Congrats on the little girl and you wanting something different, we all can't be Brittney's and Kelly's, and Katelyn's.

Valerie is a pretty uncommon name. Or Siobahn. Anything Gaelic or Celtic.
If you want a different name for your daughter, don't do any of the artsy kinds of names that are popular now. Go with more traditional names. Or try combining names.

Here are some sites that might help you with creative names:

Middle names:
http://www.namenerds.com/uucn/advice/middle.html

Popular names (so you know what to avoid):
http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/?sex=female&yob=2003

French baby names (sound nice):
http://french.about.com/library/travel/bl-fr-names-f.htm

Japanese cat names (cute and really unique):
http://www.cats-central.com/cat-names/japanese_cat_names.html

I too am trying to come up with a unique name for my child. However, I think I will pick a more traditional middle name so if he or she later wants something more common then (s)he can go by the middle name instead.

That no one else has? Make one up. Otherwise, lookup Irish or Gaelic names. They have nice names that are unusual. I personally like names like Zoe and Cloe. I also like Rhiannon, Ryan, Ella, and Nadine
