they say that they are obeying God and the Bible. Their holiness standards such as-no watching tv, no going to movies, no non christian music, or that the women shouldnt use pants or make up or jewlrey, etc etc. They say that all of that is holiness and seperation from the world. What do you all think?? Im a little confused about all of this!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's legalism...

Must ask...where in the Holy Bible does it say:
1) No watching TV (I can't seem to find it in my NKJV or NLT)
2) No movies, (I can't seem to find it in my NKJV, NLT or Amplified)
3) There's not "Christian" music out there. Perhaps Christian Lyrics...but music is music...
4) Woman and pants. I love this one. Total legalism. I laugh...ha, ha.

However, the scriptures do tell us to dress modestly; not to draw away from our inner beauty and not to make our Christian brothers stumble. This would also hold true for men not to make their Christian sisters stumble. ((It's a two way street)). That's the only thing of which you mentioned I can find in the Holy Bible as I use three different versions.

They are taking what is common and treating it as holy and that by definition is legalism.

What you are talking about is religion.

Religion is man's way of trying to reach God.

Relationship is God's way of reaching us through Jesus Christ.

If you are searching for a "new" church, look for one that is Spirit filled; one that urges relationship with Jesus and pushes away from playing "church."

Both links below have sermons on-line...and they've got their finger on the pulse of relationship. (I'm sure there are many others...but I like these two...((yes, personal preference)).

Grace to you and God Bless!

The United Pentecostal Church does NOT practice legalism. To my reconing I have yet to meet a UPCer who has been issued a badge that allows him/her to inspect the personal lives of the saints for non observance of the rules (such as you see in legalistic circles). Following the Bible is not legalism. Following the voice of God in your life is not legalism. Deciding that movies and T.V. have no place in your life is not legalism. Deciding that inner beauty is far better than having streatched pores and wrinkle treatments for the rest of your life is not legalism.

And the last time I checked with the Bible, holiness IS a separation from the world.

THey are controlling people trying to play Jesus. But because of these people do not throw the baby out with the bath water. The Pentecostal movement is real and scriptural, Acts chp. 2. I believe in what I read there, it happened then and can happen now. It is much more real and documented than what the Roman Catholics do in their services. It has more life than many of the conservative protestant churches who sit in stone cold silence for an hour reciting off of a page. Praise God that he led me to this vibrant church of action. Look for yourself, it is action for me. BTW, the Christian religion is the slowest growing religion in America today and it is losing 95% of its young people. Guess we could use a good pentecostal revival now , huh? Scripture says the church grew by 3,000 that first day of Penrecost, right?

I grew up in the UPC and I know it is legalism at it's origin.

You can either "come out from among them and be separate," or you can go out unto all parts of the world and teach the saving grace of Jesus. Which would be more important to Jesus?

Almost all of the UPC holiness standards are based on Paul's writings and some are based on the old testament. Most of it has absolutely nothing to do with anything Jesus said. Most of it is crazy in today's society.

Get out your computer Bible and see what Jesus had to say about Pharisees. That ought to clear up your confusion.
Personal advice: Hun, stay away from UPC, or any other church where people line up at an altar waiting to be "slain", or where they wallow around making noises like farm animals. There is the stench of brimstone all over that stuff.

I had a friend that was a pentecostal..She eventually got out of there..But from what she told us, I did not like it. I don't understand how they can tell them how to dress, wear their hair and all of that other stuff they say to do. She was the "teacher" in one of their classes and was told she had to leave or "step down" from that position because she was dating someone that was not pentecostal. That along with everything else they do is not right!
