I have this wall mountable 2 gallon fish tank that weighs about 12 lbs and I want to hang it on a piece of wall with no support beams or what ever they're called. What is the safest/easiest/best way to do this?

And I know that water weighs 8 lbs a gallon I use water weights to work out, and I have gone to school. But the measurement is filled all the way to the top and I'm not filling it that much. And I measured it with the water in it thank you very much. I may be blond but I'm not a dumb blond.

Go to your local hardware store. Ask about hanging stuff on drywall. They will give you about 50 different things to use to hang heavyobjects on drywall.
I hope you are accounting the weight of the water in your calculations.
Water weighs about 9 pounds a gallon so that is 18 pounds of just water.

This is a disaster waiting to happen. Don't attach anything of weight to dry wall, it will eventually rip out. Especially a 2 gallon fish tank.
You've got to find the studs (spaced every 16 inches on center, by code) I would recommend at least placing a 1X4X18 piece of wood (adhering this to the studs beforementioned). You can do one of two things to find the stud: get a stud finder at Home Depot, or, take a hammer a lightly pound the wall until you hear a solid thump. Good luck!

You will have to go to the hardware store and ask for drywall anchors that will support 12 pounds. Do you realize that the 12 pound 2 gallon fish tank will weigh 32 pounds if you add the 2 gallons of water to it?

Buy a stud finder to find the 2 X 4 behind the drywall. You could screw/mount it into the 2 X 4.

I would find the studs that are behind the dry wall and anchor it to them...also you might want to recalculate the fish tank plus water...If it will weigh more that about 15 pounds, I believe I would put it on a table or on the floor.
Good Luck

There is no such thing as a 12 pound 2 gallon fish tank. Water weighs over 8 pounds per gallon so if the tank itself weighs 12 pounds... please take before and after pictures. I can always use a good laugh!

Studs behind the wall are only 16 inches apart. Surly someone will have a stud finder you can borrow to locate it. Sheetrock along will not support 12 lb over a long period of time

When they build a wall, building code requires a stud every 16 inches, they are in there, trust. If you cant find them get your self an electronic stud finder, or you can get mounting screw called butterfly screws, not real easy to explain how they work but very effective in hanging moderately heavy items on unsupported drywall.

some good wall anchors or molly bolts that expand on the inside of the wall providing more support
