My daughter was born 3 months early. She has had lots of health problems in the past, but most have smoothed themselves out. I only have the one child so I don't know much about kids. Is it normal for a two year old not to have good balance. always tripping over things and running into things. It seems like she doesn't pay attention to where she's going or something. I've had her eyes checked, she went to physical therapy until she turned two which did nothing that I didn't do at home, but the whole balnce thing is throwing me off. I know i may sound a little stupid, but does anyone else have problems with a two year old who's always off balance.

My daughter does walk on her tip toes (but so do I right now, LOL) and her feet turn a little inward also. When she was born they almost looked backward. But have straightened a lot. Her verbal skills are amazing for her age also. She talks really well and has a memory like an elephant. I know the walking may have been contributed to by the prematurity. Her ears were also checked and was fine.

My 2 yr old daughter was very clumsy also. She tripped over her own feet and ended up with stitches! Kids usually pick either verbal or motor skills to work on one at a time. Does she talk pretty well? She may just be working on verbal skills now. But I wouldn't worry about it yet. Does she walk flat footed or tippy toe? My daughter walked tippy toe for a while too and that makes them even clumsier. She also has a little catching up to do since she was 3 months early. Give her some more time and practice and I'm sure she'll get more gracefull!

I also have a 2 year old daughter. She was full term & has always been in the average range for her height & weight. She doesn't have the best balance either but there is nothing wrong with that. Some children get there balance down perfectly as soon as they start walking & some children don't. There is most likely nothing wrong with your little girl. If it really does worry you then ask your pediatrician about it, they will probably check her ears & eyes, but if those are both ok then your daughter is ok too & will gain control of her balance eventually. Good luck!

Some 2 year olds do have balance problems.

Have you had her ears checked? There might be something wrong with her inner ears that would effect her balance.

One thing you might try doing to help her balance is get a railroad tie or something similar and let her play on that and practice walking. I had an awful time with my coordination when I was a youngster too, and it probably would have been worse without the balancing games I played.

Been there.. know exactly what you mean.. had a preemie baby myself.. i was exactly 26 weeks when he was born... He didn't start taking steps till he was exactly 2 years old... Same thing as u say he didn't have a good balance.. He would run into things, I think this is because it was so new to him ( walking that is) that he just wanted to explore and of course that meant making a mess..lol.. If i remember correctly it took him about 6 months to stop running into things and to start paying attention to where he was going, I had to guide him and tell him to go around his toys or whatever was in his way or else he would get a boo boo and it would hurt, Be patient.. just like everything else, your baby learned things slowly,, But she will get it, and be a pro in no time...

You are not stupid for asking this question... My daughter is 2 y.o. and she is always falling or running into something. Mostly its because she's just not paying attention or she's running too fast. The only thing I could suggest would be to get her ears checked because fluid in the ears can cause issues with balance.

she's OK, my dauther was born a little late and is quite tall for her age. she is also bumping into things or tripping over her feet. with time they get a little more graceful.
just make sure she doesnt fall too much ;)

carefully it truly is likely ok. If he's eating a fried chicken leg you doesn't ought to take the floor off for him. yet i doesn't let him %. the floor off of things he isn't any longer eating or some thing like that.
