Every morning between 3:00 and 5:00AM, they meow very loudly, run around my apartment, and crash into my bedroom door ... repeatedly. They do not stop until I get up and feed them. Any suggestions?

Thanks for the responses. A little more info: If I feed them before I got to bed, they eat all the food in about 2 minutes. (They are NOT fat, just enjoy eating I guess). This does not make a difference in their morning behavior. Also, I do NOT want to get rid of them, but I'd love to be able to "sleep in" til 7 on a Sunday morning.

I have two with the same problem what we do is before we go to bed we lock them in their own room complete with litter box & water bowl, so the first night they cried but now they are used to it and look forward to treat time right before bed to get them in the room! they have comfy places to settle down for the night and it isn't a small room so they have plently of room in there, as a matter of fact if we stay up late the female will start scratching at the door and crying to go in! If it is a small place you live try the kitchen or bathroom.

Put out a bowl of dry food. In this way they won't be bugging you for food any more, hopefully.

They have learned that when they bug you at this time, you will feed them. So you either need to feed them at a different time by putting out the dry food, or stop giving in. This may even require putting them in the room with the litter box (and water) until you are ready to get up, or outside if it is safe and well-protected.

Good luck!

feed them right before you go to bed. that might put it off a little bit longer. you can get a large dog crate big enough to put a litterbox in and put them in there at night that way they won't be running around, the meowing well, put the crate far away from your bedroom. another more expencive option and I'm not sure if it will work since your cats probably want attention from you as well as food, but they have timer automatic feeders you can set it to feed them at 3am or 2:30am or so.

I'm sure you can go find an automatic feeding dish that you can program to feed them at 4:00 in the morning so that you don't have to get up to do so. But, I will tell you that from experience, cats are nocturnal creatures who tend to like to play in the wee hours of the morning....so feeding them may not get the exact desired effect.

Try and put your cats in kennels every time they wake you up. Eventually they will learn that playing too rough in the am means some crate time. I would also then make some time to play with them when it was appropriate, like before you go to bed, or when you get up. If all else fails try an automatic pet feeder set at 300am or so to put the cats attention on something else.

My cat used to walk on my head every morning at five AM. I put a bowl of dry cat food out before I went to bed so that she would have something to munch on in the morning. Hope this helps.

Wake up and feed them. Cats are night owls... they are opposite of us. They play at night and sleep during the day- nothing you can do about it. Since they are nocturnal, you may want to feed them before you go to sleep to try and keep them from waking you. Or, keep your bedroom door open so they cannot crash into it.

I know its not the same but I'm sure they can be trained. My son used to wake me that he needs to use the bathroom. Until he learned that he dosnt need to let me know he can just go and retun to bed. Try Puting a dish of food that is safe to leave out all night a few feet a way from your door maybe it will work. or maybe make one room cat safe and put them in there with food so they don'y go mad.

Keep some kitten crunchies out when you sleep and have some kitty toys, like some balls they can bat and chase, play hocky with etc. That could amuse them until they gwet a little older so you can get some sleep. No strings or bells attached to those toys! They choke on these things.

Ha! ha! heeee! Oh that's so much fun when we do that!

Listen, if you close your bedroom door, we'll just howl louder.

To stop the kitty clock from going off so early... here's what you do...

Put some dry food out "before" you go to bed at night.
That way, we can snack on it as we like.

It won't stop the kitty clock from going off early, but you might be able to snooze past 5am...
