I filed bankruptcy (here in IL) and was granted my discharge right after christmas of 05- I have tried to apply for a credit card but got denied. How do I start to rebuild my credit if no one will give me credit? Oh, and I refuse to do one of those prepaid cards. That just makes no sense to me. I will not pay someone to give me my own money and list it as a "credit line." Any suggestions? Serious answers only please.

I agree on the prepaid cards, you would just be spinning your wheels using those.

You might go to the site that I've linked. Do some reading in the credit forum and bankruptcy forum. There are many threads on the outcome of people who have filed BK and applied for cards. Who they have applied with and either was approved or denied. What companies are known to be either BK friendly or unfriendly.

There is also a link, at the top of the pages, to CreditPulls that has some good info.

It is a free site and there is "NO SPAM allowed" on that site. You will not be bombarded by ads or people trying to sign you up for anything.

Try secured credit cards from CapitalOne or HSBC. They may charge you $35 to $59 on anual fees and high interest rates. After about 6 months to a year, you may be eligible to be switched to unsecured credit cards.
