You really should wait until you see him. What I do is to select names using the personality of the puppy or some trait he/she has that I like or I choose a name based on his/her size.
For example, I had a black and white spotted terrier mix girl and I didn't know what to name her at first, so Mama suggested that I make a list of names that I liked and take a few days and see which name suited her (the puppy). I discovered that this puppy walked like a little lady and she held her head like a lady that I used to know and so I named the puppy Lady. I had her for 11 years. She died in 2004.
Another example is that of my present dog. I was given her by Mama when the puppy was six weeks old. At this age, she was very small and I thought of the name Little Bit for her. It suits her to a "T". Another name I thought of that I didn't use is Doodlebug.
The best thing that I can suggest for you and your new puppy is to meet and get acquainted and then you make a list of names that you would like. You can even start the list now. Then when you get your puppy, you can rule out some of the names and maybe you'll want to add others. Then finally, that perfect name will reveal itself. You might want to ask your family if this puppy is going to be a family dog or you might just want their suggestions. Daddy suggested Lady the day we got Lady. However, at that time, I didn't see calling her Lady because she was half-starved. She was an abused puppy who I rescued from a puppy mill. The people were calling her Lucy which didn't suit her at all.
I wish I could help with possible names but I don't know of any boy puppy names except Chico and Sam. I have had girls all the time. I do remember that the dog on the Dukes of
Hazzard was called Flash which you may or
may not use. Besides Flash, there is Spot (see
what I mean about names for boy puppies and
me?)
Really, the best thing that you can do is to wait until you get your puppy and see if there is a
name that appeals to you from the list you have
made. You might also ask the breeder what
the name of your puppy's Daddy is. Maybe you
can get a name from that. I remember reading
a story about a horse in the 60s and the daddy
horse's name was Black Tony and his son was
Black Lightening. Go with the list. Also, you
might try going to your favorite search engine
such as Google or Yahoo and typing in the
words "puppy names" or "names for small dogs"
without the quotes. There are several sites that have puppy names on them. In fact, that's all they have.
