People like having control over things like when they will arrive at there destination. Even if they have to pay $5.00 a gallon. Where I live the buses don`t even run on Sunday, they don`t run till 9:30 am an Saturdays and stop at 7:30 pm everyday they run. And on the weekdays they start running at 6:30 am. These hours conflict with work hours, and the buss system here is not as reliable as driving yourself. Sometimes the buses are as much as 2 hours late. The buss driver are rude, mainly due to being under paid and there are many drunks and weirdos utilizing the public transportation system around here. I`m not saying it`s like this everywhere but most of the population in the united states is in smaller city's like this one, 100,000.00 and under. There just isn`t enough demand for public transportation in smaller areas like where I live, the city or private company that runs the buses don`t make enough revenue to keep running or start in the first place. In fact here the city sold the buses to a private company to save money, and instead of expanding buss routs and hours that would make it more popular to ride they cut the buss routs and raised the buss fairs. Oh yea more fair hikes and rout cuts are in the near future for the buses here. In Sacramento, San Francisco, and San Diego I found the system to work much better, if I lived in a larger area I would most likely ride the public buses more often than not.

You go to a large city, you will see public transportation being used more frequently than you will most places in the United States. This is because, for public transportation to be effective, it must have enough customers in a limited amount of area. The more people and the smaller the area covered by the system, the more profit the company can make.
Therefore, in big cities where there are a lot of people in a cramped area, you'll see lots of public transportation. But for most of America, space is something we enjoy, so public transportation is not effective.

A lot of times, it is just inconvenient. I live in the Chicago suburbs, and the public transportation system is hopeless. It's just too hard to get anywhere on time. But where I will be going to college, Champaign IL, the public transportation system is excellent, it will be my main mode of transportation. And in Chicago, I only take public transportation. I can get anywhere in the city pretty effeciently. It just depends on your location.

go to a walmart buy a weeks worth of food. try an carry it to a bus or other public transportation point and you can see the problems develop. you can only buy what you can carry.
its also hard to keep a time schedule with public transportation. it stops and goes and you have the inconvenience of changing buses to go a different direction. doctors and all other special situations make planning a trip tedious.

i pick to apply public transport. All in all it is plenty extra much less costly than paying all the expenses that are in touch interior the working of a vehicle; petrol, parking, coverage, street tax and maintenance. oftentimes whilst buses are late it is because of the fact of site visitors. i think of that too many human beings stress with only one man or woman of their vehicle. The form of vehicles on the line could be so much less if human beings only vehicle shared. Public transport does want various progression. If the call for replace into extra beneficial possibly issues could develop at a speedier %..

Because they like the stress of driving, hate waiting for transport to turn up and prefer to throw their shopping in the boot than carrying on the bus.

For some people it isn't convenient for them to use the public transit. For example, I work in the mountains of SC and live at least 35 minutes from there. I would use the public transit but there isn't anything that goes in that direction.
