I bought a 48-hour ticket for the Greyline Bus tour and I was not dissapointed.

What was so great about it was that the tour guides were very knowledgeable. But in addition, you could get off the bus in any part of the city, walk around, look at everything you might want to, and then get back on another Greyline bus, which usually comes by every half hour or so. It was a great way to get to know New York. My wife and I got to explore Greenwhich Village, Little Italy, Soho and other places just by getting off the bus and walking around and then getting back on the bus.

Being a NYer, I'd say you have to walk! When people come to visit me I sort of do a nice little circle of walking that hits up a lot of the sights.

Here is my walking tour.
1) Get to 34th Street and 5th Ave. That is where the Empire State Building is. Go to the top and see it.
2) Then walk west down 34th Street until you see Broadway and Macy's. See Macy's, it's the biggest department store in the world. But don't buy anything or too much because you're going to be walking all day!
3) Then walk up Broadway to 42nd Street where Times Square begins. Keep walking north through Times Square and see all of the crazy stores there.
4) Walk East (take a right) on 50th Street and see Rockefeller Center between 6th and 5th Ave. You'll also pass NBC studios. You can do the tour there too if you like.
5) On 5th Avenue see St. Patrick's Cathedral.
6) Now either walk north on 5th Avenue to see some extraordinary shopping and then ultimately Central Park (but I think Central Park requires a whole entire day), so go south down 5th Avenue, see the NYC Public Library (which is really a museum at 42nd Street.
7) Walk East on 42nd Street and see Grand Central Station.

From there you can do whatever you want!

Have fun!

An exclusive tour from the Mayor's permission or Donald Trump.

How about the underground gold vault at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York?

Another good option is just follow me around, I will be a good tour guide for you.

Like Steph said, do ur own tour. Those buses are jokie. Get a MetroCard and just hop the Subway and do your own tour. You'll get to see the things you want at your pace.

walk. an un-original one would be to start at columbus circle and central park and walk down broadway. you wouldnt get lost and see quite a bit. otherwise grab a guide and see that plus the areas on either side (soho, village, etc.) and that is only the beginning. get good shoes.

i would hate to see ny from a bus...ny is awesome, and the best way to experience it is with a map and your own 2 feet...see greenwich village(st. marks place, washington sq park).
