If you have that much of a reaction, you should have them sedate you. I freaked out when I got my root canal, and if I have another one, I'm getting sedated. That said, relaxation exercises sometimes help when I'm nervous. Just tense your muscles for a few seconds adn then let them go, and then take a deep breath. Do this for all the muscles starting from your toes to your face.

You are in trouble. If your root canal filling is already out and paining , it indicates that you have an infection. You need to be on antibiotics. You have to get an X Ray done to assess the condition of your root apex [the top part of the root]. If you have smaller lesion, re treatment may help. If it is big, then you may have to undergo a surgical procedure called apicoectomy [cutting your root apex through a hole drilled in thr bone]. Let me tell you, if it is shaking, btter get it pulled out.The whole thing is painful. If you are a anxious person, you need to be on Alprazolam before the procedure.

Have the dentist give you a valium to take an hour before he does the work. They often do that - especially for something like a root canal. Sometimes even just for regular work, if the patient is especially anxious.

having a good dentist helps. i get petrified with fear whenever they do anything beyond a cleaning, but my dentist is so sweet--he makes me feel so much better. he jokes around, or if he can tell that i'm REALLY scared, he tells my what he's doing in very simple terms so that i don't get any more freaked out. a mean dentist can make going to the dentist hell.
i would suggest that you go to a good dentist, with a really good friend that you trust. listen to the most soothing music you have while they get your filling back in--oasis, enya, and norah jones are great. reward yourself after with a movie, dessert [if you're allowed to], or something else that you can look forward to.

i just went for my first dental visit yesterday and had two extractions. i was nervous. my dentist came in and did x-rays. then he used a bubble gum flavored oragel to numb the gums. then he waited about 10 minutes. then he gave me novacaine. he removed both teeth in no time. today i have a little swelling and NO pain. i haven't even taken tylenol. :) what an awesome dentist... oh, i go back tuesday for follow-up and maybe some more work.

Breath Breath Breath Breath and then think about a place where you enjoyed your self. Same dentists have headphones that you can leasing music maybe not hearing the zzzzzz of the machine will help you come down.
And think about that you are not going to be in pain no more.
