Well, technically they were already "re-written" when they were translated from their original text to modern standard English

Somehow I KNEW this would get me in trouble, but this is what I came up with awhile back:

Ten Positive Commandments

1] Love and honor YHWH/the Great Spirit/Universal Mind above all.
2] Learn, then teach others about His Attributes.
3] Honor your forebearers; prepare for your descendants.
4] Respect and defend your fellow men and women at every stage of life. Give assistance and show kindness wherever it is needed.
5] Appreciate what you have; rejoice in your neighbor's good fortune as well.
6] Use only what is needful. Respect the Earth and all life upon it.
7] Do what you know is right; be truthful and honest at all times.
8] Take full responsibility for your actions.
9] Take the time to maintain mind and body.
10] Work together for the benefit of all Mankind;

To Stephen M:
I don't have a problem with most of your "commandments" except # 8, "Thou SHALT follow a Personal Code of Ethics." What exactly does that mean? Anything that is OK by you personally to do, do it? If it feels good, do it? Did Hitler or Charles Manson not follow their own personal code of ethics?
If there is no black and white right and wrong, all that's left is chaos. A world where everyone does whatever they want because they think it's right.
I realize that these are extreme examples that are obviously unethical, but Hitler must have thought that he was doing the right thing according to his own personal code of ethics.

No one but God is up to standards to re write the 10 commandments. The 10 commandments were given to Moses by God. I don't see any need for changes. These are 10 basic rules that any moral individual should be able to uphold. He's asked us to love, not hurt etc....why should that be changed?

what do you think of these 10 commandments I found on the internet?

Are they better or worse then the different versions of the 10 commandments given in different parts of the bible?

1. Thou SHALT NOT believe all thou art told.
2. Thou SHALT seek knowledge and truth constantly.
3. Thou SHALT educate thy fellow man in the Laws of Science.
4. Thou SHALT NOT forget the atrocities committed in the name of god.
5. Thou SHALT leave valuable contributions for future generations.
6. Thou SHALT live in peace with thy fellow man.
7. Thou SHALT live this one life thou hast to its fullest.
8. Thou SHALT follow a Personal Code of Ethics.
9. Thou SHALT maintain a strict separation between Church and State.
10. Thou SHALT support those who follow these commandments.

LMAO!!! There isn't anyone in the world today that could do this. We are doomed. Sorry.

P.S. Definitely not the "Reverend" Jesse Jackson. He would just make commandments for white people, and let the blacks do whatever they want - kill, steal, etc.

I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues which are written in this book. and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophesy God will take away his part from the tree of life and from the holy city, which are written in this book. Rev. 22: 18-19. DO NOT CHANGE THE WORD OF GOD!

We've had 10 simple commandments for thousand sof years, and we still can't follow them. Why would we want to write new ones!?!

Thous shalt not kill HAS TO BE ALTERED. We have so many criminals taking up residence in our jails and spending my hardearned taxes. It isn't gods fault, he couldn't have possible seen how many would reject his teaching, but we need a death sentance badly!
