Shaolin varients do some flips and spins but that is not the focus of most of the training. As mentioned in another answer, those techniques are quite risky if you opponent understands martial arts and are very difficult to do well enough to actually use in combat. I have been studying martial arts for 37 years starting with Shotokan Karate, followed by Aikido, and about 12 years of Northern Shaolin Kung Fu.
Take a look at some of the Shaolin Monk videos in the link I have provided. I did a study tour with training by these guys in Shaolin, China. They are the real thing and can do just about anything you can imagine. The video pointed to by the second link with the chain whip is a good illustration of air spins and I believe there is a forward flip at the beginning.

Some of the "flashy" aerial spin kicks are performed by top professional Tae Kwon Do practitioners. In demos.
I once saw (from 10 feet away) Jhoon Rhee do an aerial spin kick
that seemed to last for seconds, impossible,I know, but I "was there".I stepped up and shook his hand, his face was "glowing" and you could feel the energy in the air.
Remembering those days now make my eyes water.
There is(once was) more to to Martial Arts than the physical and lots of practice, there was the mental that brought magic into present time.I have seen things that physics says can not be done. The air filled with electricity,a feeling of well-being that lasted for hours after the demo. These things I have seen with "my own eyes".
I trained a fought in the days of :Bruce lee,Byong yu,Benny Urquidez(a friend),Douglas Wong,Chuck Norris.Joe Louis,Darnell Garcia.Ray suapia,Tadishi Yamashida, and many other legends of Martial Arts. These days are gone.None of you will ever know how much I miss these times.
I am now old,an aging relic of what once was,and never will be again.
You young people have your fun and train hard,do your best. Please keep in mind the greatness of our past and remember those who went before you.
As for me,I am crying, and must sign off.

If you're big then it is useless.
If you think you can beat someone while flip and flying around then you're gonna to get butchered even if other person can't fight their way through wet paper bag.
If you think it will help you get laid, you're wrong. It will just impress the girl for a sec then they will forget about you.
If you think ninja do all that circus crap then go do some research.
Lastly this circus martial arts are only good for show and nothing else. You can learn it from almost any gym that doesn't give a crap about how good you're at fight and care only about how good you look when doing martial arts.

I'm not professional, but according to my knowledge, Vovinam is a martial art style that involves a lot of jumping and flips and spin in the air. Because, it has a lot of wrestling techniques, it uses those jumps in the air to catch a person off guard and uses the flips afterwards to, well, flip the opponent over. Additionally, it also uses weapons, such as: fan, sword...

Gymnastics ... unless you grew up in the '80s ... then it's GYMKATA ... how embarassing.
BTW, if you pulled any of that on me, I'd wait till you get tired then rush you and finish you. If you are close enough, I'll grab you out of the air, throw off your aerial balance and make you land hard. Then ground and pound you.
Piece of advice. Leave that crap to the demo teams and competition kata. And for the record, ninjitsu isn't about flips and air spins. It's about the quite secret art of assination. Not getting 10's by the Romanian judge.

Be careful what you wish for. A well grounded practitioner can easily nullify jumping techniques and badly hurt an airborne combatant. All that has to be done is slightly alter your aerial balance and you'd land badly and then be further exposed to strikes to render you incapacitated. Just to illustrate, watch the fight scenes in the dojo were Jet Li goes to challenge the Japanese master (Fist of Legend). Guys doing flying kicks had their nuts squashed by a well placed forearm. Needless to say, they didn't stand up when they hit the ground.
Save that crap for the forms tournaments but don't take that to the fight.

hiya. Flips are quite often used in the present day in gymnastics, to teach off or in French "unfastened working", referred to as Le Parkour, it is unquestionably city working, hiking partitions, overcoming obsticles, etc. that's amazingly effective if one lives in the city, and you may desire to flee immediately. As became into reported above, almost no martial artwork might teach you flips, as they're. additionally, taking on martial arts basically via fact they do backflips, does not be smart the two. What I propose you do is to circulate detect a solid martial artwork for your self; and in case you're prepared to examine backflips, ask somebody approximately Le Parkour, via fact they could be probable the terrific in it (that, or capoeira). notice nonetheless that capoeira is likewise traeted as a spiritual dance, no longer in straightforward terms martial artwork. distinctive martial arts teach you distinctive issues. some have good punches some have good kicks, grabs, throws, chokes, etc. What i'm doing is bujinkan ninjutsu and that's concidered as a deadliest martial artwork (in straightforward terms for tips). It additionally teaches you how to get out of difficulty unhurt via any capacity. Kung fu (or wing chun - version of kung fu) are the oldest martial arts obtainable, have been given started via priests in Tibet. Kung fu has various speed, flexibility and aesthetics to it, seems dazzling, relatively. nicely, I go away it as much as you from right here, desire i became into of a few help. Nick Z

Ninjutsu, or ninjitsu. Kung fu is the one you see in movies. Most of it is crane or swan style. but most of the incorporated ground fighting is tiger palm, wolf fang or many of otehr various dialects. Ninjutsu all though amazing take much discipline and speed training, where as kung fu takes technique and mind training
